Shane and I put in around 4 this afternoon and got off the lake at dark.
We planned on doing a little night fishing, but the bite was just way too slow for us to stay out there tonight.
Started off fishing mainlake coves/pockets. The fish were in these places just not biting very well. We originally threw spinnerbaits/fishheadspins at em but never got the first bite.
Picked up the spinning rods and started tossing finesse into the trees. Started catching a couple fish, but still was very slow. Managed 2 keepers to start out with in the first 30 minutes. After a little while we headed back into a creek a good ways. Fishing the finesse in the trees and banks still. Picked up a couple short spots... then shane and I both casted our baits right next to each other in the same tree. After a good 20 seconds of deadsticking the worm I set the hook on a fish. Then I see Shane start fighting a fish as well... my line started going in the direction of his line LOL. We boated the fish, it was a skinny largemouth and had both of our baits in its mouth emoLaugh emoUpSmile emoUpSmile emoGoofy emoCrazy We could not get over that, it bit both of our baits!! The fish looked terribly skinny and I barely gut hooked it so it was bleeding pretty bad. It did manage to swim off just fine, but I dont know wether it will make it or not.
We boated a couple more small spots and moved on up the lake into another slough. Boated a couple there. Then decided to get out on the points with the ol dropshot.
The fish weren't really on the points. Only a few were, but those few fish were biting pretty well. We managed another 8 or 9 fish in the next hour and a half off of 3 different points all together. Most fish were keepers, with the biggest being a decent little 16" spot.
Decided to not do any night fishing the way the bite was for us. Shane caught 8 fish and I caught 10, we totaled up with 17 fish emoBigSmile do the math!
Was a slow night and took some work to catch what we did. The weather was great though. Seems like right now Parksville is just a hit and miss. Bite is good some days and not so good other days. But thats all for now, good luck on the water and be safe!
