It was a great day at this years event. Big fish honors went to Bearlakefishguy with a 13 lb 33" mack caught while trolling, he won a nice ice fishing rod and reel combo for his efforts[Smile]. Fish1on won some trolling lures and a dodger for his fish in the "other category". Then BaitCaster won a mug for "showing up and staying" category[Wink].
It was nice to be on Big Blue again and seeing old friends. Thanks for everyone that showed up and shared their snacks. A big thanks to Ralph's neighbor, he was the only one to bring some salsa this year.[crazy] Here are a few pictures of the event. WH2

I'm glad to see that some of the guys showed up to participate this year. My son and I got to the marina around 7:30 am prepped the boat to launch. Launched the boat got out past the buoys and throttled up headed to the rock pile. All was looking good until I noticed that we couldn't get on plane ,It acted like there was no power. I backed off the throttle some and tried it again, still no power . Ilooked down at the temp gauge and it was pegged in the RED. I got it to cool down just enough to get back to the marina. We checked it out and some where I'm not getting cooling water to the engine I'm going to check it out this week. Anyway we were going to be out there with you but the Fishing Gods had other ideas. I'll get it repaired and get out there soon.

It sure was nice to get out and fish. The getting skunked in the morning part not as good. The interesting food for lunch was great and a trade mark for the Salsa Boyz get together. It was nice visiting with fellow anglers and sharing lunch and swapping stories. Bearlakefishguy you have a fascinating job taking care of that lake. I just have to come up some time and help out with the gill net surveys. That would be fun.
After lunch Wiperslayer1 and I set out to fix that skunk thing. We trolled everything we had on the downriggers and lead line. All I managed was snagging a little 8 inch sucker. What an unlucky fish. We gave up on the rock pile and Gus Rich point and crossed the lake to the south end of cisco beach. Trolled some more and got the skunk off with a couple small cuthroats caught on silver and black frenzies. Wiperslayer got fixed up with a small for him laker. We switched to jigging and picked up another small cutthroat. Gave it up at dark. Sunday morning had us on the water before the sun. Working jigs at the rock pile at Gus Rich Point. About 1030 I hooked up a smaller cutthroat then Ira got one. We had lots of bites and about 11 Ira got the nice cutthroat. After that the bites went away and we called it quits. All I can say is Bear Lake can really demand hard work for the fish it gives up. It can be tough but those fish we got are sure pretty. I got some pics so its not just a fish story[Wink]

Thanks for posting your report and pictures Dan. Too bad the big ones did not come out to play but at least you guys did better than we did on Sat morning.

"Fish1on won some trolling lures and a dodger for his fish in the "other category".

lol, other category, you kill me. I caught a nice white fish trolling a deep diving rapala???? That fish was hungry with its little mouth and that big ol lure. I was going to release it but it was bleeding bad and they are my favorite/only eating fish from bear lake. Sunday morning was a feast for me, my usual two over easy, toast, and a couple slabs of the bear lake white fish pan fried in olive oil and butter with a dash of garlic salt and pepper.

Thanks again Scott, it was nice spending the morning BSing with ya, been too long since we did that.

WH, thanks for setting this up. Wish there was more folks out with us but we had a fun day regardless.

So I hope the fishing picks up a bit. I can't wait to use my downrigger. The water in the pics is georgous. Here's a C&R cutty taken back when the snow was just off in the spring..

I figured someone would catch a Cutt and that would be the "other category" but since that didn't happen the whitie filled the bill[Wink]. By the way, did that guy in the shiny aluminum and blue boat come by and throw some candy bars at you and Scott?

Check your pee hole on the side of the motor, this will indicate if the engine is acually cerculating water thru it.

That link gets you to a good reference page regarding the whole cooling system and some things you can check on your own.

good luck! To bad on the fishing trip.

[#804000][size 2]Yeah, I had the same problem as AFDan a couple of days before the Salsa event, and I was trying frantically to replace my impellor and housing, but I couldn't get it back together soon enough.[/size][/#804000]

[#804000][size 2]Oh Well, I guess I'll hit Willard and see what else I can break.[/size][/#804000]

Thanks Pookiebar for the tip. I am aware of the Pee hole flow, But my main engine is an inboard V-8. Not picking up Lake water to cool the engine.
