I ran accross this arcticle in the Logan Newspaper:

Some guy launced a mussel laden boat into Bear Lake last month!
After millions of dollars spent to stop this from happening, there will still always be some dim whit that does it anyway!

I think this is a couple weeks old, but disturbing non the less. They were all dried up and dead, which is a good thing for Bear Lake, but there is question of other waters the boat was at.
Also, very disturbing as you said, that it got this far!!!!

Thats good it would suck to have them in Bear Lake.

Did they burn the boat? If not, why not? That's what the dimwit deserves.
[signature]
or at least give him that big fat fine they said they were going to give out.

How did he even get his boat in bear lake anyways? I thought they were checking All boats for this as they came in.?

I hope that he does get a fine out of this. Then maybe he will learn what decontamination means!

In some locations they check every boat but in most lakes in Utah they don't, especially if you get there early and have a self inspection paper in your truck window. None of us were checked a few weeks ago at Bear lake at our yearly Salsa Boyz event.

[#000050]I agree, I was at Bear Lake in August and not checked at all. In fact the only place I have been checked is at Henry's in Idaho.[/#000050]

Towards the bottom of the article it states the lack of money/man power and that they DO rely on everyone of us doing all we can.
It is OUR waters, the officers might not even care about the water and it is just their job.
It is up to each one of us to make sure we are clean.

[#000050]And I agree withyou 100%. I think you know that I've been an outspoken advocate for the program.[/#000050]
[#000050]Education is the real tool here and I think Utah has done a really great job in getting the word out to most boaters.[/#000050]

I agree, they have done a great job for those of us that pay attention to these types of potential problems. The problem doesn't come from those of us that follow the rules and care about what happens to our great resources here in Utah. Those that either don't care[unimpressed] enough to learn the rules or don't think the rules apply to them[mad], are the problem and I hope that they get fined enough that others, will pay attention.
I wish we had more information about this because it is possible that the guy had his boat out of the water for a month and like was mentioned the mussels were likely dead. Hopefully we will get more info as time goes on.

It is just lazy that people dont check their boats...
Most of us care about the waters that we fish and take care of them. I was at Newton last week and was sorely dissapointed at the amount of garbage along the banks. We took out a bag full of trash, but there was a lot more.

Absolutely Ryry4545. No idea how to get through to these people too. What do they think is going to happen to this stuff?[crazy]

Disturbing[:/] its
to think all it takes is one screw up.

One thing that strikes me as the water gets low is all the crap that's been dumped into the lake (and others). Thought I mighta found some fat bass making home in some of those big tires, but nah. Just more obstacles.
Some fisherpeople are damned slobs. Is it SO hard to carry that worm container, or liver bucket, or big mess of tangled line - away from the water with ya? You look around ANY bridge along HWY 30 and you'll be sure to find trash.
So good on ya filling a bag. Find any good lures? [cool]
I've been "interviewed" at several lakes, but they didn't really look at the boat. I think it's the same kind of arrogance demonstrated in that case in Cali - on Tahoe. Where the guy "evaded" checkpoints, and ignored the rules, and got fat busted with a big fine. Plus they upped their communication system to tighten up as a result.
Someone takes the attitude that they don't care, or it doesn't apply to them, or they hell with waiting, I want to ski NOW!
But on the other hand I do see lots of folks drying down their boats after a lake outing. Though that may be to prevent water spots on their shiny wakeboard boats.
I think you anglers are more in touch with the fact that these lakes, waters are a living resource and need to be managed and protected.
Thanks for sharing the article.
How many PONTOONERS /TUBERS stop at the Malad check point when heading to idaho waters?
