Willard Wed September 22, 2010
With a friend John we got on the water at about 08:00 AM, the wind was blowing from the south at kicking up some good wave action, we headed out to the Island area (south west) and the waves too big for fishing, besides we got no hits, headed to the light pole area, and we started marking fish, but again no hits, we decided to ditch the wind and waves and try the Pig farm area and Freeway bay, changed out lures and trolled t about 2 mph (gps) when the hits come in, wiper hitting the lures, I landed 6 wiper from 10:20-12:05 the fishing was great for a change. The lure used was something I had never tried before and a strange color pattern, we had to head in for the day, and the wind kicked back up. So we ended up with 6 wipers for the day. Sorry no photos, I forgot my camera, and I know Photos help the story to be believable, but those of you that know me, know I do not post unless it happened.
Water temp 62*. Wind from the south. Trolling speed 2 mph (gps). Line out about 200 feet. Lures at about 15-17 feet deep.
Pm me if you want the lure type. It is hard to explain the color pattern.
Nice report thanks for the info. I wonder how the weather last night will affect the wipers?

Good to hear that you were finally able to get into them.

Regarding the description of that lure, a picture is worth a thousand words. We would all love to see it. If you would rather not show it publicly, I would appreciate a PM with it.

Yea, I have heard of several changes in lure styles and colors this year to get them to bite. I remember seven years ago that my go-to willard lure was an orange and gold Crockadile. My how things do change over the years.

Birds on he water by the Pig farm area, however no Boils. Yes it is a weird year for color on the lures. I never thought the colors I used would work, The colors I used was a Yellow with green top rattle trap, about 3" long.

[fishin] I went out again on Thursday with not as much luck, only two Wipers from about 10:45-12:00, I had to be off the water at noon to get to my college classes.

Keep the reports coming, sooner or later we will figure out willard-or not! [Wink]
Thanks for the report.
Just got my boat from Wyoming. Soon as I can get her registered and make sure she's still running good. I'll need to head out there. Before it gets too cold.
