I have gone out and visited a couple of lake in the last week or so. The water temps are down to 58 or so now.

I went to Twin in the hopes of catching some panfish and bass. I didn't catch a single one. I only caught trout.

Not to complain because the trout were nice. They ranged right around 13 to 14 inches. Over all it was a nice day -- light breeze but cool and I was the only one there.

The lake is down quite a ways, but the boat launch in the north lake is still usable.

Since I only caught trout at Twin I decided to go with the flow and go to a trout only reservoir for my next outing.

It too was down, but the boat launch is still good to go. There were quite a few boats and float tubes on the water. Most were fishing the flats on the north end, I decided to fish some of the deeper water.

I had thought about doing some deep nymphing, but I managed to mess that whole idea up big time. ---- I have been doing so much small stream fishing lately that I took my extra flurocarbon line, sinkers, and indicators out of my vest to lighten it up, and forgot to put them back in before I went to the Reservoir. Oh well, back to full sink line!

There were a few fish jumping occasionally, but most that I picked up on the fish finder were from 10 to 20 feet down. I caught a few on scuds and also some on a hare's ear nymph.

They are really healthy and fat! It was a little slow but, I am glad some came out to play.

My nicest fish of the day I didn't get a picture of. I had him across my lap and was in the process of taking the picture when he did the most acrobatic back-flip I have ever seen. He hit the side of my tube and rebounded about two feet, did a pirouette, and a tail salute, then he was gone. I got a great picture of my empty apron. Don't you just love fish stories!!

The water level is down but not extreme. It was a bit choppy and downright cold.

The old trees at the north end are high and dry---
And the stickups are up! Anybody recognize some of their flies and lures? The mono on some of these looked like cobwebs!

I almost ran over two hunters this morning on my way over to the reservoir, and I must have past about 50 more on the way there and back. The hills are literally crawling with orange. So on my way home, I see that the deer have left the hills to the hunters and moved to the fields instead! [laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh] (Sorry, not a good picture)

I know ---- they are only does and a spike ---- [:/] But I still thought it was a thumbing of the nose by the does! [cool]

That is breath taking.
Oh and by the way, Chan, although he does use the slip indicators, also deep nymphs with a fast sinking line. Basically jigging. Drop straight down then very slow retrieve.
If you us floating line, maybe some extra weight and drop it straight down.

Keep the pictures and stories coming.

I was trying for awhile dropping a chironomid down, but I don't think I was getting it down enough, or they didn't like the color. I was really cussing that I didn't have any weight with me at all! Looking back (hindsight is great), I should have put the largest beadhead I could find on as a dropper.

Another fish story: I saw one crusing the shoreline with his fins out of the water. Made me think of jaws! I got a hit in his area on a damsel, but I missed it, and no more hits.

That is awesome! Love these pictures.
I went to Sportsmans Warehouse a few years ago and bought a couple of those ice fishing sinkers. They are a bright color 1" lead (only time I use lead,,,LOL) with a wire clip on the end.
I use it when I have no sonar. I clip it on the bottom fly and drop it till it hits bottom, then raise a foot and set indicator. Bring it back up and take it off.
I leave it on my boat as there would be no where else I need it.
My point is, this might be something you want to add. Attach it to the end of the leader, then add tags for the flies at different levels.
Most Idaho waters are 5 flies/lures aren't they? Man you could cover allot of water levels and find where they are hanging.

The drop sinker on the tube is a good plan. There were a lot of fish hanging 20 feet down.

As for 5 flies I know that it is legal but, --- I haven't ever fished with more than two because I have a bummer of a time keeping two straight and untangled. Maybe if I was just dropping them down right below me in some really deep water, I wouldn't make a mess of it.

I have caught a lot of doubles before, and I doubt if you would catch more at once, but can you imagine more than two on your line!!!
