Does anyone know when the rainbows in Deer Creek spawn? I have heard Spring, fall, and even in February. Just curious when they may be moving to the river, so I can flyfish for them.

Why do they have to be in the river to fly fish?

Tends to be early spring and and it has happened as early as Feb.
Fly goddess- because the big SOB's are stacked up in the tribs and easy pickens if you hit the right day. shhhh this is a seceret between us.[

DC is cool. There is actually a Spring AND a Fall spawn up there. I have fished both and the Spring one is much better. Happens from Febuary through the first part of April. 98 percent of the Bows in DC are sterile but they all go through the motions. Now is a good time but I usually fish elsewhere..

You are right,I do remember guys telling me of a fall run also. Planting has messed with their cycle so some are
and run in the fall. I think there are some in Echo that do it also.

There are so many strains of rainbows raised in so many places over the years in the U.S. Now you can find them spawning every month somewhere in the U.S. Not sure that is true for any other trout.

I fished up there about mid-November and the rainbows were spawning in the provo. They were small, 10-11" but they were definitely spawning. Lots of milt and a few eggs coming out of fish as I released them. Hopefully they are bigger this year. I caught all mine in one small section of the river. Other good looking areas produced nothing.
Last year Roughin' It Outdoors did a story about the fall-spawning rainbows the DWR has stocked in Echo, Rockport and DC.
