So I went to pineveiw again this morning and only had a couple hours before i had family coming to town. Went to my usual spot where i have seen muskie and hooked into 2 thursday, was on the water by 8 a.m. and by the 3rd cast had one hooked
was a bigger one than thursdays 2 but had the same result, it fought like hell and did a jumping act and spit my jig which came sling shotting back at me, I didn't realize they were the acrobats they are everything i've heard they are more the ripin drag divers type, anyways i have figured out which jig is working for me there but can't seem to get the hook set good(or in one case on the 3rd today straitened my hook) so i guess my question is what would be a good jig head to use that is nice and sharp and maybe a little better quality. I don't know what the ones i am using are as i got them from my brother as i needed a bigger jig head than what i had on me, he said he got them from sportsmans and that was all he could remember about them.

I have lost plenty of muskies when they go aerobatic but it seems I have had more success when the drag is set very loose so they can just peel off the line. Less muscle....and much more patience.
Good Luck!

my drag isn't set that tight, did manage a small large mouth, it fought pretty good for a little guy so at least it wasn't a total bust for a trip.

Matt,
I was up there this morning as well. Were you in a boat? I saw a massive muskie but no hook ups. I agree with the other post though, your drag may not be that tight but the drag should give before the jig hook straightens out. The brand of hooks that are red are super sharp and should be strong enough. Either way I'd loosen the drag quite a bit.

Congrats though, you're progressing much better than I have been with the Muskie. I hit one with a jig/grub by the tail. Wink

have been using a baitcaster and am not overly familiar with it yet so drag may be a little tight, they were still able to pull the drag though so didnt really think it was that tight, even the small lmb was able to pull drag on it. I was in my tube, was only there for about 2 hrs before i had to leave.
