After doing my Google Earth "fishing research" on Lake Mead, I noticed there is a river connecting Mead and Lake Las Vegas. Is this a fishable river?

Ive hiked back there before the streams that run into the lake are shallow + murky a big old mud marsh. Not sure about the stream closer to lake las vegas. My buddy actually sunk in 3-4ft while tryin to get close to the stream. Appeared to hold a few minnows/shad. We also saw tons of yote tracks in the mud. Not sure if you can fish the part up by lake las vegas Im sure someone will chime in and let u know [cool]

In regards to Lake Meade mud make sure your shoes are tied on good. If not the mud will suck them off and you may not see them again... I had a buddy lose a shoe (maybe both) in the mud at Meade.

The "river" you're referring to is the las vegas/sloan wash that carries reclaimed water (sewer), urban runoff and stormwater to the lake.

I grew up on the east side of Las Vegas and so we hung out and drove around there quite a bit. I believe we had at least seen minnows and assumed there might be carp in it. I bet some fish have found there way in there somehow. Water flow is not always consistent so some areas dry up between the rains. Also, there are concrete structures that would prevent fish from migrating up and down it freely.

Rest assured that water is very nasty and you wouldn't want to eat anything out of it. Some of these areas are protected as natural wetlands and protected wildlife habitat, so it might not be legal to fish there. I'm really not sure.

A lot of info can be found here

Great information, thank you. On google maps it looks like a large fast flowing river! Glad I didn't waste my time---

I have hiked down there a bit, and I saw plenty of big carp crusing in a foot of fast flowing water. I assumed there were bullhead and maybe some white cats or channels in there. Smallies like current too...

The way I see it, if a big ol carp can get up there, there has to be other stuff around. Im sure that there are a few species that took hold of some parts of that stream back when the lake was up.

BUT...

That water is friggin nasty. It looks like.... and smells like.... and I wouldn't touch it unless you pushed me in.

+1 to that.. That water smells like S***. My wife and I talked to a ranger while hiking the wetlands a while back and he told us there were carp, bullhead, sunfish in there. He also mentioned smallmouth were starting to show up, just not as far into the wash as the other species yet.
