Well, I'll give it a go Coot...I like prizes[].

I have 2 spots that I like to fish from when fishing from the shore @ Da'Berry:

Spot #1: 40.215177,-111.108513 , Here I like to use Rapalas in a variety of colors (white to Purple), but I am sure the lures you pictured it your post will do great there. There is a lot of area to fish here, easy access, and there are always a few that want to play. When the spillway is moving, the 12-15' bows can be caught on small spinners or Powerbait on the bottom on the mouth of the spillway.

Spot #2: The next spot is a bit more of a walk....not too bad, but also holds some good fish. This is a good point, and is Underfished in my opinion. There are seldom any people here, and a slow reel with tubes tipped with chub meat on the bottom will get hit often here. 40.186304,-111.151788 I like to use Rapals and Powerbait on the bottom here as well. You can get bit on the deadstick rod at both areas and they can produce as many fish as the active rods at times. There are usually boats that troll this line and pick up quite a few, but now that they have moved shallower, the boats have a harder time picking them up, so shore is a good bet. This whole "point" is good because of the grade of the bottom, few snags, and you can cover many depths from the same spot.

Also, Spot 1 is best for me as I can usually get a limit of bows right in the mouth of the spillway. If you want cuts, go on either side of the spillway...20 yards off to the sides and the are usually just crusing the shoreline looking for dinner.

Spot #2 is great for Ice as well and also produces well for cuts in the fall ....a bit of a walk, so better if you have an ATV in winter, but well worth it and no crowds. In fall there is usually a few anglers on the bank on the way there, but knowone is there once you come around the point and cast into the bay.

Good question. I was wondering if anyone would ask.

Here are some answers:

Sometimes I am driving past the Berry without my boat in tow and I wonder if I had some fishing tackle with me, where would a good place be to stop and fish for a while.

Occasionally, I wonder if I could simply drive to the Berry without taking my boat and catch just as many fish from the bank without the expense and hassles of prepping, towing, launching, loading, and all that annoying stuff that goes along with using a boat.

Also, with all the good fall fishing we are about to enjoy from our boats, I was thinking that others, who are land bound, might like some good tips on where to take their lawn chair and bait box to do well for a day of fall fishing the Berry.

And lastly, I have a new, in-the-package, BFT t-shirt that I don't want and thought that this might be a good venue to get it to someone. Plus, I figured that most responses will be coming from bank fishermen and the winner might enjoy a day of fishing the Berry from a boat.

Soldier creek side was more productive for me when I fished from shore in my younger (teenager)days.But I haven't fished it from shore for at least 10yrs now.

Just because you are willing to walk a few hundred yards to fish rather park and walk down to the water doesn't make it a secret spot.Strawberry is very limited to how much shore you can fish as it is.But I'm sure your "Secret spot" is only fish by you and only you.

Priorities man, priorities. Because I live 2 1/2 hours away from Strawberry, "Roughing it Out Doors" is probably the closest I will ever come to seeing that place.

Besides, what little I have learned about fishing has just came to me out of thin air. I don't really know how I come to know what little I do know. I seldom go out fishing. I never study maps. I rarely talk to other fishermen on the lake or at marinas. I don't really know many people that fish. And heaven forbid that I ask for fishing info on a fishing forum! But some day I plan to try some of those things. I'd like to see if I can get the hang of this fishing stuff ... including fishing from the bank at Strawberry. I really do need to "go out and do the work".

I think this is a great idea.

Many people have a hard time "putting in the time" on such a big, far away (for many) lake. This will allow them to have a better chance at catching a few fish...which they will most likely release anyways.

This is a huge lake and I have a hard time believing that a spot could be fished out.

Also, most bank fisherman that I know are fishing near parking lots and road side pulloffs....not walking a mile to a spot.

I think coot is just looking for a few spots to improve his chances insted of just following the crowds and thinking that if there are a ton of people, there must be fish too.

As with any post or request for info, if people want to give details, they can...or they can guard their secrets. Coot said in the first post that he respects both.

I've not actually fished the berry from shore, but i will tell you what i think i know from what i've heard and other posts that i've read.

SC dam is supposed to be ok with your usual fall techniques such as spinners (i like the blue bluefox and the rainbow pattern bluefox), tubes, rapalas. However, everytime i drive by on my way to the ramp, there are a load of folks trying their luck with their faces into the wind, so i don't know. There is also the point just north and west from the boat ramp there that i've seen folks pull fish from, but again, i've not ever fished it from shore.

Now, i'll give you my best idea of where to go. However, i think it would constitute either a long walk or a bicycle. I most always hit the same spot first everytime i go to the berry (mind you that my berry fishing experience is limited, and i haven't actually been anywhere except the SC side but one time from strawberry marina). This 'honey hole' that i love so much is through the narrows west from the boat ramp. I dont have the coordinates, but you basically motor for what seems like 5 miles in my slow boat, thru the narrows to the west. You go around the first real bend in the lake and on your left hand side there's a beautiful little cove with an island between you and the west bank. From that cove i have seen bicycles at the top of the hill right above me. That means you should be able to access this hole from the shore if you have a lot of energy to get there. I have no idea how long the bike trail is, but it is possible, and from the boat i always catch fish here within casting distance from the shoreline, and it's a sweet little spot. I really love it there. Also, anytime there hasn't been any KSL ads about a 14lb cutt coming out of the berry, there aren't typically many people there either. Last saturday, however, was a different story. I had never seen the lake so busy.

Anyway, i seriously doubt this will win any prizes, but i do wish you the best of luck. I've also wondered the same thing about getting some fish from shore. Sometimes i just don't want to deal with the hassle of the boat, but would like to catch nice cutts. I'm also about 2 or 2 1/2 hours from the lake, and haven't brought myself to take a day hoping for fish from shore, but you never know, it could be a lot of fun just exploring the shoreline. I'll be certain to let you know when i become more familiar. I certainly plan to get to know the shoreline better. []

Drive past the ladders, at the top of the hill there is a sign for a passing lane, there is a turnoff just pass that sign.I haven't fished this spot since the gate was put up, actually since I got my boat. I used to fish it all the time due to the fact that you didn't have to pay a fee. There is a ledge about 10-15 yards out that drops the water to 30-35' if I remember right. I always used a worm and marshmallow (vanilla flavored) on one hook with powerbait on the other. I fished about 18" to 2' off the bottom. I tried to use a google map for location but don't know how to get it here.
