Do they collect fees up there in the late fall? From my experience they shut down the campgrounds(lockem up), lock the bathrooms, shut off water at fish stations, but I still see people putting money in the collecting sites.

It seems to me that if they did collect the fees then they should keep the facilities open but if they don't then they should indicate that on the money drops. Just wonderin.

Good question. I wondered about the fee at the non paved spots like Chicken Creek, Ladders, etc.....
Aren't those BLM land, and if you read the sign, the camp grounds get that money too[crazy] Don't make sense. Wonder if there were to be a ticket sited, how it would stand up in court (BLM land)
Sorry, just saying. The improved launches however, I can see that. Somebody must own that.

As of right now, they're charging $7 for the day use fee. That may disappear come November. I know in years past it has.

Can't remember a year when they haven't collected fees.

I have had to pay the fees even during the Ice Fishing season, plan on it.

I have fished da berry all the way up to ice up and yes you have to pay a fee or they will put a note on your windshield. I dont ice fish but they might still charge you.

[:p]I think they charge. I remember one time that the road was not even plowed going down to the parking lots and we thought that there was no way that they would charge.....we came back to the truck and found a ticket had been walked down to our truck thru the snow.....awesome[:p].

Yes they collect fees all year. I have the same complaint with any of the parks that provide no services during winter. No restrooms, no fish cleaning station no plowed lot to park but if you dont drop the fee in the box you will get a ticket

I could've sworn they take down the big red and white signs that say "FEE AREA" during the winter months.

I can't speak for everywhere, but at least last winter they did not charge during the ice season at The Strawberry Marina and they now have a pit toilet in the parking lot that is open all year long.

Unless that ticket was written by a peace officer, it's not valid from what I understand.

It has happened more than once. Both times on roads unpaved and with more than 6" of snow. Tons of people made it down to the lots and all got tickets. DWR. The second time was at the DC Rainbow bay lot....down that hill. The snow at the Berry was super bad and blowing....thus the ticket was walked down...no Tire tracks.

@ DC it was driven down.

I've always wondered this myself. I often park and launch my pontoon boat down that dirt road 1-2 miles past the turnoff to Strawberry Bay marina (not sure of the name, but on the West side of Strawberry Bay). I've always stopped and paid before I drove down there, but last Friday I decided to ask the lady at the fee booth (the one right as you turn toward Strawberry Bay marina). What she told me (after explaining exactly where I planned on going): "If you are not at a marina and are parked on the dirt, it is a no fee area". Take that for what it is worth.

I won't take that as gospel but that sounds a lot like it should be at E Chicken Creek Bay, which I hit last Thursday(no marina, no restrooms, just dirt road to lake) except they have a nice receptacle for collecting fees. [shocked]However, it is only $5 there. I'm not opposed to fees to keep the fishery going, since it is the most popular fishing hole in the state. I'd just like to see it AT LEAST reduced in the "Off" season if they are not going to offer the same amenities as they do in the summer.

Yet you look at the sign above the pay point at Ladders or E. Chicken and it reads the camp grounds collect the money????? Why? Again, I am pretty sure that allot of that land is BLM (ours)

I think we are getting took[Wink][mad]

BLM or Forest Service land, either way it IS OURS yet they have American Land & Leisure collect the fees. I wonder what percentage of the fees go back to the fisheries and what % go to AL&L? They have to be making a profit or they would not be doing it, they are a private corp.

I have a similar "beef" with the Mirror Lake Highway fees. I go up for one day and have to pay the Forest Service for a 3 day pass or nothing! They use to have a single day fee but hey, let's screw the public for who's resource this is anyway right and offer the 3 day minimum pass option only. Again, I don't mind a fee but make it fair and offer single day passes for the many folks that visit the forest for the day only.

I don't think any of that money taken at Strawberry goes back into the lake.
It might go into those BRICK houses, and to the people to clean them and the camp ground hosts.

I don't fish Strawberrry for this reason. We are getting screwed. I purchase a Federal Parks Pass, the Golden Eagle Pass, every year. It gets me into Powell, the Gorge, AF Canyon, Zion's, etc, any federal park or rec area, EXCEPT Strawberry. All the money goes to the water users and they are the ones that set the policy. I had a real knock down drag out with the Head Ranger in Heber several years ago after getting a ticket with my pass in the window. Never paid the fine and have never been back. For some reason, Strawberry is a special exception to the rule, they can take it and [url "mailto:#$%@!$"]#$%@!$[/url]# !!!

I know where Chicken Creek is, that's not where I was. It's about a mile past the Strawberry Marina and a mile or so BEFORE the turn off to Haws Point. No marina, no restrooms, just dirt and NO receptacle for fees. The lady assured me it was free.
While fishing the Green River last winter (I had been told incorrectly that Dripping Springs Campground was free during the winter), I woke up to a lady outside my tent from American Land and Leisure asking for 17 dollars for the tent spot I had gotten to at about 3 a.m. (of course I DID use their restroom). That was my bad, but I was surprised at the amount.

I agree, we are getting screwed at strawberry. But who do you complain to. By having AL&L doing everything, the forest service has completely removed them self's from any public complaints.

Last December, before the water froze, we went to renegade and parked. The fee box was taped up and covered for winter and no payment envelopes. we parked and fished. Came back every car in the lot had tickets. A few people were arguing with the AL&L guy, who of course could care less.
