[cool][#0000ff]Got a lot of places to hit in the next month or two but thought I might go back to Deer Creek this morning...to see if I could score another 6 species "super slime". Got all but the crappie.

At 7:30 AM it was getting light, at the Island ramp, but myself and a couple of boats were sticking to the ramp cause we couldn't see more than about 20 feet in the fog. I lived in southern Cal and have been in plenty of fog...but that was deerickulous.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I launched and hugged the shoreline, going north, until I hit the Island and then worked out to the end where I wanted to start fishing anyway. But it was wierd in the twilight and fog. I could hear the traffic whizzing by on the nearby highway but the fog distorted the sound and it seemed to be coming from every direction. Maybe that was also because I caught myself kicking in circles a couple of times.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Through the use of finely tuned hearing, dead reckoning (at least badly wounded), watching sonar and blind (and how) luck, I finally was able to see a dim outline of the Island shoreline and followed it out to the end. I heard no boat motors so I felt I was safe...at least from boats. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Found the first marks on sonar around the 20 to 22 foot zone. Them marks was hordes of smallmouth and largemouths...nothing very big...but they were aggressive. Probably caught a dozen of each before I could get out of them. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Worked into the area where I caught the crappie last week and saw some blippos. BOINK....ZING. Crappie? Nope. Slimer. First one jumped and got off. Gee...too bad. Worked my finesse ice fishing jigs (Flat Rinkees) high and low through several fishy marked areas. A few more slimers...mostly newly planted "finless Freddies". Nary a slab crappie in the bunch.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Decided to work the line along the "perch zone" where I had found some fish last week. Scored about a dozen perch...some in the 10 - 11 inch range..."underfooters". Kept a couple for din din.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]And thennnnnn....one of those perchies turned out to be a wee wallie. Not quite 9 AM and I already had a 5 species super slime. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The sun burned through the fog about 10ish. Sure was purty as the lingering wisps of fog/clouds hung over the water and formed a ballerina gown of sorts around Timpanogos. I never tire of watching that mountain wake up in the morning.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Went back to the "crappie rocks" but got nothing but a few more bassettes. Worked out to the perch zone and found more willing perch there too. But I have ever been guilty of leaving feeding fish to go find others. Did that again today and only got a couple more dink slimers who didn't realize the jigs I was using were not meant for them.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Motored back into the ramp about noonish. BFTer Perchinski was working the area and motored over in his boat to say howdy. I gave him the 411 on the perch zone and when I left a little later it looked like his boat was working the right spot.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Tough fishing today but I was happy to score a few fish in each category except the solo wallie. I kept him, a smallie and three perch for a "captain's platter"...TD style. Some of the flattest water I have ever fished on Deer Creek. It was a mirror when I left.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]By the way, for those who like to shore fish from the Island...it is now a peninsula, with decent foot access. Several bank tanglers there today but I did not see them catch anything. You can see the dry walkway between the bank and the island in the picture I took of Perchinski.[/#0000ff]
