A couple friends of mine were out camping in their Fifth wheel out in Logandale and invited me up to hang out and do some fishing. We fished Stewart's point from about 4am to 8am and did fairly well. Caught 17 fish amongst the 3 of us. Mostly 14 inch + Cats but I did Harvest 3 decent stripers to try that "Rich Man's Lobster". Ended up throwing back all the cats we caught because I absolutely hate cleaning them [:p]...My buddy Justin caught a decent 12 inch Smallie on an Anchovy which threw us for a loop lol.... When the action slowed I baited up my medium-heavy rod threw it in to soak and tossed it in my rod holder so I could maybe hook into some bass on a crankbait with my baitcaster. I was about 20 ft from my rod and I could see the tip of my rod that was soaking bait was bent down a little but not really moving. The currant was pretty strong, so I didn't think anything of it. A couple more casts on my baitcaster and I looked over again to check on my other rod and the tip was almost in the water!!!. Ran over and set the hook but I think the fish had hooked himself. After a good fight where he was zipping off drag like it was nothing I landed a decent cat that I think weighed about 5lbs. This fish almost pulled my rod holder out of the ground [crazy]. Overall a very fun trip!!

-- We were using Anchovies as bait and Chummed with a chopped up bag of Sardines.

Very nice Sil [cool] I honestly think those are the hardest fighten channels ive ever caught out west. Was there lots of bankies & boats out there? Would love to get out there just dont wanna take the mustang off paved roads. That leads me to anothor question how are the roads on stewarts point rd? thanks

People started showing up when we left. I did not see one boat out there other than a houseboat that was parked in a cove across the way. The roads are great. I took my little hyundai accent out there with no problem.. i was going like 40mph+ on the dirt road that comes off of the main road.

FATCAT. I swear they're bigger over there on that side of the lake. Caught a huge one over there when I was a kid. Had a head the size of a grapefruit.

Ya fishing was hot over there. Fast action for those first 3 hours. I was actually surprised at the drive.. only took me about 30-35 min getting to Stewart's point from Henderson. I took Northshore road all the way there.

fat cat!!! how does one get to stewarts point? are there signs? cause it takes me 45 mins to get to hemmingway harbor from Lake Mead blvd and Decatur N. i would like to do a bit less driving and more fishing. thanx

Its the next road after echo bay marina rd. [cool]
little farther than hemmingway.

Ya take Northshore road towards Overton. There is exit sign for stewart's point off of this road. Stewarts Point is about 10 miles from Overton. Like 4pound said, definitely not as close as Hemminway hehe

Syn,

Sorry if you already know this, but I'm sure it will help some people new to the vegas valley and Lake Mead.

There are two roads in the Valley called Lake Mead. There's Lake Mead Blvd in E. Vegas and Lake Mead Drive in Henderson.

Maybe you've been taking 95 out to Lake Mead Drive?

If you live on Lake Mead Blvd & N. Decatur, you can take that road east to Nothshore Rd.

Just take Lake Mead Blvd East to Northshore Rd, turn left to go toward Overton/Stewarts Point...... instead of right toward Las Vegas Bay (RIP), Boulder Harbor (RIP) & Hemenway.

I hope this helps. I fished boxcar and crawdad alot in the 90's and 8.0 road in the 00's. Better shore accces over there IMO but my opinion is dated since I live in Hendertucky, haha.

I hope I'm not stating the obvious here.

Erawk, its all good lol, i know there are 2 lake meads, i was wondering if i took lake mead blvd east to northshore rd, then to stewarts point would be faster than taking 95 all the way to lake mead drive/parkway then over to hemmingway along lakeshore. cause thats a 44 mile drive for me.

Gotchya. As Sil mentioned, Stewarts point would still be a longer trip. If you want to shorten your drive then you might try crawdad, boxcar, 8.0 road or Callville.

Google maps says it's 30.9 miles from N. Decatur and LMBlvd to Callville Bay Rd turnoff. The other spots mentioned above are all on the way to Callville.

The only reason I've been fishing the south side of the lake the past years is because I live out that way. If I lived over to the north most of my trips would be to that side of the lake. I don't like driving too much either, rather spend that time [fishin]
