My 12 year old son and I plan to go to Strawberry Saturday. We have 2 main challenges - first, we don't have a boat, and second, it will be our first trip there. I'm not looking for an exact spot or detailed info but can any of you with a bit more experience than us suggest a location or two that we might try from the shore? My son takes his fishing very seriously and I want his first trip to Strawberry to be a memorable one. I promise to post pictures of him and his catch in exchange for some sound advise. Many thanks. Chicken creek, mud creek, the ladders, renegade and the soilder creek side have all been good lately. If you're bait fishing try worm and marshmallow or chub meat. I prefer casting three inch tubes tipped with chub. If you're not getting fish walk along the shoreline and keep trying. I've caught 15-20 fish per trip during the last few weeks. On Sunday I caught a 25 inch 4.5 pound rainbow and two cutts at 24 inches using tubes. Another good method is a two inch tube about 3-4 feet under a bobber tipped with worm or chub. That's what I use on my second pole and have caught quite a few. Try shallow to deep until you find where they are holding. They move around quite a bit. Good luck!
Thanks for the info. I really appreciate the help in regards to areas to try and am also greatful to you for sharing your ideas about techniques. We'll narrow in on a couple of areas suggested. It should be a great weekend for fishing. Any thoughts on where abouts a person might locate some chub for bait?

What Bearnk suggested is great advise, here is link to a recent thread that might help about the same subject.

Try sportsmens warehouse for chub meat, Anglers Den is another great store to check out but I'm not sure if they have chubs or how close you are to them.
In case no one has said this already, welcome to the site.

This time of year I like to sight fish. Get some polarized lens glasses then find the brutes cruising the shore in close. I use a rapala or rapala "husky jerk". Around hunting time my go to color is orange, gold/orange. They like others some days such as rainbow or small kwickfish in frog. Cast parallel to shore and change up your retrieve until you find the take. If you're not set up with that kind of gear the stuff mentioned previously works well also. Good luck to both of you.[fishin]

So we made it out on Saturday and managed to coax a couple into the net thanks to a little help from some of you here. The fishing wasn't and fast and furious as we expected and I'm sure we need to improve on our technique a bit but we did catch a few nice ones, including 1 over the slot which was safely released to fight another day, and got a little "Bank Fishing at the Berry" under our belts. Thanks again to all those who were kind enough to share their knowledge. Here are a few pictures as promised....
