Full Version: How would we fare at Pelican...??

Drawn to that little lake for some reason, but never hit it in the fall.

2 months of solid stress and more stress, and NEED to get out. Thinking of getting my dad, daughter, one buddy, and I to hit Strawberry tomorrow afternoon from shore or tubes, then continue on to Pelican for the next day.

What's the scoop? I know it only gets so deep, so where do we look for bass and gills now? Any favorite lure types and/or presentations?

Thanks..

Like you say it is a small lake. It is getting colder so I'd bet they are not right up against the shore like in warmer months but probably out deeper - probe around and look for them... Shouldn't need to re-invent the wheel either so to speak,... Small jigs tipped with any number of baits should work well. Ice jigs in particular work well on gills all year long. Try tandem rigging.

This might not be known for being a "prime-time" for gills but they are in there and they have to eat, so they can be caught. Just give it a shot and see what happens.

I'd have to think that if you can tear them up under the ice then you should be able to score a good # of them now. Just search and destroy.
