I know there are a lot of fellow Veterans on this board so I thought I'd post this. I went to Applebees for lunch yesterday, I've seen them advertise for a few years about a free lunch for Vets but have never taken advantage of it. I can't tell you how impressed I was with this lunch visit. There were teenagers in uniform on AD, there was one gentleman who I heard say was a Vietnam Veteran, he was pushing (the greatest generation) his father in a wheel chair who was a WW2 Army Air Corps Veteran. Not only were they giving away a free lunch but if you were a Veteran they gave you a $5.00 coupon for the next visit. I saw hats, shirts, even guys who squoze back into their uniforms. No hope for me there ha ha. In any case I know there were several restraunt chains which did this. I will absolutely support them with my outings in the future. Some of them were Texas Roadhouse, Chili's, Applebees, Subway. Feel free to add as I'm sure there are many more. Very classy!

Golden Corral does the same thing but instead of doing it on Veterans Day, they do it on the following monday.
I was at the Applebees in Riverdale yesterday and they asked me to show a military ID in order to get the free meal. I tried to explain to them, only retired military get an ID card but they acted like they did not believe me. I did bring a copy of my DD214 and they said that was ok but still could not understand why I did not have an ID card.
I heard on the news today that some students from BYU were wearing military clothes just to get a free lunch, so I can understand why they want proof but I just wish they had their facts straight.
I had not heard that Subway, Chili's or Texas Roadhouse were also doing the free meal.
I think it is great that these restaurants are giving back to those that have served their country.

If I ever see some lout pull a stunt like that, one of us is gonna get a thumpin'. It'll more than likely be me as I'm 70 but I'll guarantee you this, the S.O.B. will go home with a lump or two he'd rather not have. I'm thrilled that this country is recognizing our service personnel again for their contribution and sacrifice. When I remember some of the sh-- our service personnel put up with during Viet Nam I still get so damn mad I get sick.

This is completely pathetic. I wonder if they would dress as a missionary if it got them a free lunch. They should be publicly humiliated for this.
