My brother and a good buddy of ours decided to do some duck hunting out on the Snake near Grand View yesterday. Got out to the river about 5:00am, got the dekes set up, waited for light, then proceeded to watch hundreds and hundreds of ducks migrate past us way up in the sky. We shot 3 ducks and after a few hours of getting frustrated, decided to bag it and spend the hour and a half we had left before we had to head home trying to catch a sturgeon. We had remembered to bring our fishing poles but no one remembered to bring any bait. My brother pointed out how this would not be a problem because he had brought his ultralight and a few worms and we could just catch a few small trout for bait. Within about 30 seconds of our first drift we had the first trout on and after seeing what my brother brought to the boat we decided to hold the sturgeon fish and try to get a few more of these trout. After about 30 minutes of fishing we had 5 and were ready to go after a sturgeon.

We motored over to our favourite hole, dropped the achor, and cast out a couple sturgeon lines using the heads off some of the trout we had just caught for bait. 10-15 minutes after last line out, we have first fish on. After a short but aggressive fight, we landed the fish which turned out to be 6 ft long. This took most of the time we had so we ended on a good note and were home in time for the football game.

Awesome day. The trout themselves look like they are pretty good sized.

Yeah we were surprised by how big the trout were and how easy they were to catch. I thought we might get a couple little ones but they were all pretty big. We were just drifting worms and we would hook at least one every pass.
