Spent a cold day at Strawberry. Fished Haws Point in the morning with some success trolling a purple leech and also vertical jigging with tube jigs and chub.
Headed over to Soldier Creek for the afternoon and found a few takers on the leeches. It was just breezy enough to keep the chill on you and the water a little rough.
There was not that much snow up there, a couple of inches on some hillsides and others that were completely bare.

We ALMOST made it. Got up and checked weather at 6° up there. From a pontoon....nope. Bad enough in a boat. You are my hero!
Something about Purple specially on the SC side.

here's a couple pics.
fish seemed very lethargic except for the little bow I hooked into over by SC, he went all acrobatic and put up a really good fight, much better than his bigger cousins anyway. Also, we managed a spot and stalk on a couple duckies. Cold day but good to get out with my buddies agian

I took my brother-in-law and nephew for some shore fishing near Chicken Creek Saturday. It was a very cold and windy afternoon. We must have got there kinda late because people were packing up as we got there, probably to get away before the storm got worse. We tried a variety of tube jigs but nothing seemed to entice a bite except for a small white tube tipped with worm. We caught a nice rainbow before it got too cold and windy for us. I dont know how some of you guys do it, I am not a fan of the wind, especially on a boat!

a good duck coat, snow pants and ice fishing boots go a long way [Smile] welcome to the forum

another gill gripper!

Sure wish we all had to take a Fisherman Education course like we do for hunting.

i'm not touching his gills, got him by the edge of the gill plate. that can't hurt him can it?

Nice job on the ducks! Were they actually flying close enough during the stormy weather to be in range? Or were you calling them in?

Nice green head!

we saw where they were and put a stalk on them. 40 yard shots but my patternmaster did it's job. Lots of buffies up there right now.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing the photos and information!

The patternmaster can't make up for bad shooting, so you get credit for aiming at that range. Nice shooting

Holding the duck by the neck like that can really do some damage to the bird. You should get more educated.

apparently I'm dangerous to birds and fish alike. Oh well

Nothing like a little cast and blast, then cast some more!

nice fish and green head, looks like it was a cold but fun trip. as for the picture critics, way to find the bad from something good.

My son and I were up there on Friday. We didin't take the boat since I wasn't sure about the ramps. We went in to Renegade and walked the shoreline around the end of the lake to the Narrows. We managed several nice cutts and a couple of rainbows. We would have done better along the east shoreline but the wind and waves were stirring up the algae and the water looked like pea soup. I'm not sure any fish could have seen our rigs. We did come home with several pockets full of bubbles that we found on the shoreline and an axe that I found near the narrows. The axe was about halfway between the shoreline and the narrows trail on a steep hill. It was a nice german made axe that had been there for quite a while based on the condition of the handle. I'm not sure how it got there. We did talk to some older guys in a boat that said they were doing well. It may have had something to do with the chumming they were doing before they saw us.
We also jumped several good flocks of ducks and a large flock of geese. However we would have needed a howitzer to get one of the geese since they took off way before we got near them.

Okay, so l am totally out of the loop on this. You guys go up to fish with your shot guns and between fish bites you are shooting ducks?
Isn't that scary for other boaters or even those on shore?

As far as handling the fish, hopefully you kept the one in the second picture and the one in your profile, because they were damaged. But what is done is done, all you can do now is learn the correct way.

Those ducks are cool! Can I have the feathers?[laugh][laugh]

we jumped out of the boat and stalked the ducks on land, and yeah, if you need feathers I can get you all you could ever want!
I don't see how holding them by the gill plate right up front hurts them, nothing breaks, I'm not touching the gills, and on such a small fish their own weight isn't hurting them. A sore jaw is all he should have to remember the meeting by. How should I be doing it?

At your comment, I'm laughing at the thought of you jumping out of the boat to chase the ducks before the boat gets to shore, thinking you are in the marsh. Glad you didn't do that.
And now I am thinking how much more amusing it is to watch you chase downed ducks on land than ones on the water.
Fun day, let's go do that again.
