Had an itch that I needed to scratch and UL was the closest place to fish so I headed down there this morning to see if the ice was thick enough to fish on. Went to AF harbor first. There was around 2" of ice most places I checked by the docks. I was by myself and didn't dare venture onto the ice so I fished by the docks for about an hour. Didn't get a bite or see anything on the finder. Went over to the pumphouse next. There was around 2.5" of ice there. There was a father and son fishing the inlet there. It looked like someone had drilled many holes in the inlet and a couple in the pumphouse area. I fished for a bit in the inlet and didn't catch anything then moved by the dock and caught half a dozen in a couple of hours. 1 perch, 1 bluegill, and some whities. Didn't dare venture into the area right by the pumphouse, but there was a couple of holes I could see in there. Mabey someone more daring (or stupid) than I will dare venture in that way and let us know it the fishing is any good. It was great to be ice-fishing again. Hopefully the weather stays cold and will continue to thicken the ice.

All of those holes that you saw were dug single handed by me. I went down yesterday and tested the ice very carefully. I did not have the same luck as you, but I went at a slow time of day. I only brought in one bluegill in 2 hours. I did not go out in the middle of the main area, but someone had cut a hole out there. I hope it stays frozen so we can get closer to the pump house. Thanks for you report

Thanks for the report. It was same conditions at Lindon today - about 2" of clear ice. 'Cept I did get into the whities after a couple of hours of slow fishing.
I was the only one there for a while and didn't dare go out onto the ice by myself, but eventually I put together a pretty good trip from the docks.

I'm planning on taking a trip to the pumphouse this weekend if I can find a buddy. I don't like to fish the early ice alone if I can help it. I've got a little Eskimo pop-up hut if anyone would care to join me and make a day of it.

We may see ya there. I think we will start @ Lindon and work out way around the lake counter clockwise.

The holes you seen in the pumphouse area were mine and my cousins. Yes, probably stupid but desperate to catch some fish to say the least. The ice was sure talking and that was probably 4 or 5 days ago. Fishing was slow. Guys in the channel were having better luck then us.

I have fished the pump house three times since the ice hit. I went this evening and fished right against the pump house. I got there around 4pm and fished for about an hour. I caught 10 bluegill and the action was quick. I missed a few as well. The ice was about 4 inches. There were a couple of guys in the channel that were slaying them. It should continue to be safe ice. Good Luck

Great report UTE! Hope the fishing is still hot tomorrow and Saturday. Apparently I've been doing it wrong. I have always fished between where you get on the ice and the main lake. I was always scared to go the other way towards the pumphouse. Never could figure out how anyone caught fish out there. Guess it could be my tackle too. I mostly used little jigs tipped with a worm.

I use a small ice fly tied to some line about 12-18 inches from a kastmaster or other shiny metal lure to help attract the fish. I tip the ice fly with a meal worm or wax worm. I also use a spring bobber or some time of bite indicator. I found that I was missing a ton of fish because I simply could not feel the bite. Those pan fish bite really lite, so a bite indicator is a life saver. Hope this helps. I will be there Saturday morning as well.

I'd love to make it back down to do some fishing, but I'll be busy with school until Christmas break. Let us know how you do.
