I'm taking me wife and two little kids camping over Labor Day at Starvation. Already have a reservation. I think we have a site fairly close to the water.

I had a few questions, if anyone can help:

1. I know the water is still relatively high. Are the "beaches" sandy? Is it a sand you can play in, or is it the coarse kind that hurts your feet?

2. I'll have my float tube. I plan to fish in the early mornings, and maybe for a couple of hours in the afternoon while kids are sleeping. Has anyone been up there that hasn't left a report, and could give some Starvation advice for Starvation 'eyes and smallies? I've never caught a walleye before, and am wondering if it would be more productive to just go for smallies, and maybe get lucky with an eye.

Any advice for Starvation this time of year would be much appreciated! Thanks guys!!

when I went last week in my float tube i marked a lot of them on my fishfinder straight across from the boat ramp in rabbit gulch. If you go along those rocks all the way to the point I have heard you can do really well.

oh and I was using a worm harness rigged with some red beads. If you look at my post from a few days ago I described it.

The beach at the main state park is pretty nice. There are picnic tables and restrooms. The sand there is better than most places out here. I will more than likely be over on Sunday. I have one person I took eye fishing for the first time a few weeks ago (he caught 5) that wants to go again and his girlfriend wants in on the action now too. Keep an eye out for a red ext. cab chev pulling the oldest, ugliest red/white boat near the lake. There is a BFT sticker dead center of the boat windshield. The smaller eyes will still be fairly shallow. Some all the way up in 5 foot or so, averaging 15-20 foot deep. The larger ones are probably at about 50-60 feet down. This time of year, take some red/white or red/brown jigs and tip them with worm. The crawdads are softshelled right now and the eyes are feeding on them. I'll keep watch for a float tube.

Smallies are everywhere in that lake. Of course, the larger rocks hold bigger fish, but they hold in just about every nook and cranny you can find. Straight across from the State Park campground, there are a couple of small channels that hold good numbers of smallies and a fair number of eyes. It's a fair kick in a tube, and if a storm rolls in, you might have to wait it out on the other side.

That might be possible. I'll check with everyone and let you know in the morning. B & B, the two that want to go, might be in Idaho this weekend. They should know by tonight, and if they are, I'd be happy to fish with you again. Maybe we could pick up a senkonate while we're out.
