Great day and horrible day at Henry's. We started fishing at the county boat dock only catching a few. However another group was catching a lot of fish. I noticed that they would stick them in a bag and periodically put the bag in a backpack and head up to the truck. There were only 3 of the them and they made multiple trips to the truck with a backpack full of fish. I was Angry at the blatant disregard for the regulations. As Karma would have it, just as I was on my phone looking for the number for fish and game an officer pops his head in our shack just checking licenses. I showed him my license and let him know what I had witnessed. He went over and spoke to them and had them show him their fish in the truck. They came and got there stuff and left. Later he came and told me they had well over their limit and issued a citation. It was nice to see fish and game out there, but it was horrible to see a group of guys with no regard for the resources.

Now for the report I ended up catching 10 or 12 but the last was a 7 pound hybrid. That was by far the biggest fish I have ever caught throught the ice and it was a hoot as we tried to pull it through. Over all a great day other than the incident early on. Can't wait for next year.

Good post!

Glad that regs are being enforced, and people are willing to speak up.

Good for you!! How many times have we all said "where is a cop/warden when we need one?" Well, he was there when you needed him! I recently read in the Statesman that only 3% of all poachers are caught in Idaho and Oregon. I hope the judge hangs 'em high! Mike

Sounds like a great day all around! Thank you for doing your civic duty to protect our resources and the reward! A personal best through the ice!

You deserve it!

Right on! But that was one of my fears.
Nice job on the 26" or 27" through the ice..

So now you have to wait till New Years Day?

Good job on all accounts. I'm glad the poachers were caught. FYI you can almost always find a Fish & Game officer near Henrys, usually Damon is around. It is a pretty well protected lake as far as people watching it.

Congrats on a great fishing day. That 7 lber sounds awesome.

And on top of that you busted a poacher. Great job. I haven't been that lucky to find a F&G warden when I needed one. When I called about Oxbow last spring, I was told they couldn't do anything because it was on the Oregon side. I call BS on that one.

I was fishing there the last day and I don't see how anyone would dare break the limit . There were so many people watching each other . Unless you were in a shanty there had to be at least 10 or more people watching every fish come through the ice and how it was handled and released . Way to go on getting them busted . Nice job on the big fish . Curt G.

That was my thought, I could not believe what they were doing because so many people were around. I watched for a while to be sure I was correct in my assumption, I had thought about going over to talk to them to make sure they knew the limit, but as they put them in a bag and hauled them to the truck everytime they got 4 or 5 I was too Angry. It was evident they new what they were doing and I guess thought no one would care.

Glad they got ticketed. With that extra 200-300 dollars the fish and game can plant for fish. [Smile]

Way to get 'em Damon!

Gentlemen,

I know you probably think I'm nuts for doing this, but i want to apologize for this incident. I was the main perpetrator in this poaching incident.

Without excuse, I knew the regulations, and I broke them. At first, when I got caught I was really mad. But, as I've had time to reflect on the incident, and wait for my court date and impending fines, Dec. 15th, I have really come to understand the importance of the regulations and limitations for fisherman.

Before now, I never really took fishing regulations seriously. I felt, naively that there was an unlimited resource of fish. But, I now realize that the kind of fishing up at Henry's that many enjoy is only maintained by regulations.

I want to apologize to all of you fisherman who love the sport, follow the regulations, and who make it possible for all of us to enjoy the fishing we have here in this great state.

I promise you guys that I will never break the fishing limit again, and will do my utmost to make this right, whatever charges or fine incurred.

Again, I'm sorry.

If I can forgive the guy who raped my daughter several years ago, I guess I can forgive you. Very big of you to admit it here in a public forum where you could be flamesprayed horrendously[mad]. Now just stick too it and all will be well.

Everyone has a past. Thanks first for admitting it, and second, for changing.

Hmmmm! O.K. then. I'm a bit of a skeptic so I hope I'm proven wrong on this one. I must admit, it did take a pair to post here. Hope you are for real.

Why else would I post here of all places if I weren't for real? What else would it take to help you understand the reality of my sincere desire to make this right?

Nothing's worse than the scorning I got from my wife. That was he#*.

I apologize for ruffling your feathers, here's why, I knew a gentleman that was in your same position, he wrote a letter to the editor in the local paper before his court date apologizing for his actions, long story short his motive for the letter was to try and get a reduced sentance, which he did. After your second post you don't sound like that type of person. Good luck in Court and thanks for setting the record straight.

Wow you have got some serious stones in 2 ways. First of all it takes a serious pair to poach at a place like Henry's. I mean it is one thing to poach in some remote lake that very few people frequent, which I have never done. But to poach on Henry's, Strawberry, etc. has got to be nerve wracking in the process. Like I said, VERY BALLSEY!!

Then to have the courage to come on a public forum, all be it your identity is somewhat protected. But to come out and admit you were the one, and apologize is also ballsey as it gets.

I hope you have changed. And good luck in the future on the right side of the law. [Wink]

Wow - that took some guts to fess up to it, and here in public. I'd take your "confession" as a step towards recovery. A brave move - maybe you can help others heed the warning - if you'd care to post a followup with the decision/punishment/fine they hand down to you.

Might help to serve as a warning to others that the regulations are there for a reason, and to know what the magnitude of the punishment might be.

And I'll say Kudos to anyone who reports observed misdeeds. My main concern about a direct confrontation with a poacher would be (are they packin?) a strong negative reaction. Somehow I'd expect someone who disregards the regs to not appreciate anyone who would point it out to them.

Curious, how would you have reacted if a fellow angler pointed out the limits to you?
