Fished for 2.5 hours this afternoon on 4-6 inches of ice . Edges were good and no sluch. Only caught three fish. 2 white bass and a CUTTHROAT!! Thought that was pretty neat. I hav heard of browns and bows caught on occasion but never a cuttie. IT was only 12 inches or so and released to live another day. Somehow it survived all the walleye and bass.
But the fishing was slow and I won't go back until I hear things are picking up. So let me know[:p]

Wow. That's get my vote for most unexpected catch from Utah Lake for sure. You've probably seen other posts but if you want to get in some fast white bass action, the pumphouse channel is your friend. Thanks for the pics. That colors on that cutt look really washed out. Reminds me of catching gills through the ice. They come out this funky pink color but within minutes the color right up while they lay chilled on the ice.

Wow man that's awesome! I caught a brown there once through the ice but a cutt!?!?! Very nice.

Hey thanks for the pics and report [cool] and jeez buy a new tape measure[:p]

Wow! I could see catching a trout there at the mouth of the Provo river but clear into the harbor is quite a surprise, especially since it's a cut.
Surprisingly enough I think there have been a few large browns taken out of the lake. Over at Sportsmans there's a picture of one on the desk by all the fly fishing stuff, it's surprisingly big, but I can't tell what area it was taken at, the guy was in a boat. Check it out!
What's next burbot?[:p]

Jacksonman:
Fished the pumphouse this morning. 3-4 inches of safe ice. Sonars seem to be the hottest ticket. Although I personhally had no luck with them. Caught about 20 in 3 hours. 6 whiteys, 3 perch and 11 blues. Be careful if you plan on going toward the actual pumphouse, ice is thinner, a dog fell in.

Don't ya member, Utah Lake used to be chuck full of cutthroats that were huge. They all got fished out and eaten up. Somebody thought carp must be the answer.[crazy]
The cuts must be making a comeback.[crazy]
4pound has a point about the tape measure.[laugh]

I know about the tape measure. I have one on my ladle and I put two metal ones from a craft shop and neither showed up well in pictures. So I had to pull my old one out that was all rusted out. It is on the list of things to buy soon as I find an afternoon that I am not fishing and working.

Me and a buddy of mine spent quite a few nights at the AF Harbor fishing for cat's. I always like to check the amount of water in inlets and was surprised to find more than a dozen trout at the culvert by the gate in the low water towards the end of September.
Interest peaked, I walked towards the lake with a flashlight, and spooked at least a dozen more, a couple were in the the 12"-13" range. They might not have a big presence, but they are in there.

I'm guessing the odds of that are not that bad...Utah lake? maybe not, but in Utah? I would not be surprised to hear it at all.

Joking about burbot is not funny at all. All we need is for some clown to put them in Utah Lake because the Gorge is to far to drive. NOT FUNNY !!!!!!!
I've lost faith in society. If it can be done it will be done. Its just a matter of time.
They are not all negative though, you'll see - if you ever get them in Utah.

I just hope they get caught if someone tries.

Am I missing a joke? Because they have been in UT for several years...

And BTW, has anyone been out to the public harbor at Pelican Bay?

I meant besides the Gorge.
Forgot that Utah shares the Gorge with us[:p]
