Jim and I got on the water this afternoon for a few hours....
With the water being low and the rain we have had for the last 2 days the water was pretty muddy on the upper end. Also alot of water was flowing. The wind was terrible when we got there but after a while it settled down a bit.
That November bite that I was talking about last month is here now LOL. The bite is usually great in November fishing with worms and jigs. Well I guess with the weather finally cooling down for good the fish are now feeding up well for Winter. There was no FnF bite today at all. Didn't mark alot of fish as they were sitting close to the bluff walls on the bottom. We managed about 20 fish today with all being spots except for a decent little largemouth. All came off texas rigs/shakey heads w/finesse in watermelon gold glitter and also a couple off a jig. Best places were shady bluff banks with plenty of trees on them. West side banks mostly. Fish weren't exactly right up against the bank. Most were sitting a good 10-20FT of the bank in the 10-20FT water range. The bite was good but alot of fish came off today. You would pull them all the way to the boat and they would come off... you'd then look and see that your hook isn't even sticking out of your worm LOL. I've had days like that before, dont know how that happens sometimes emoScratch Our hooks are fine and the fish are getting the entire bait in their mouths..... weird! Did have 4 really nice spots on today that did the same thing to us... 18-20 inch fish! emoVomit
Our best 5 would've been 8 or 9lbs so that is better. Lots of 14-15" fish, with 3 16-17" spots and a 17" largemouth. We did not catch many of the usual 10-12" fish today. I think the smaller ones are bout done for the year and it should be better fish from here on out emoCool
Water temps were 52F on the upper end of the lake by the ramp and as high as 56F down the lake. Upper end is always cooler with the cold water coming from the Ocoee. The spill gates were wide open at the dam and they were running all their generators, good bit of current out on the main lake but the fish didn't seem to be on the mainlake really. Only coves and creeks with bluffs and lots of trees.
Will try to get back out there this weekend, hopefully the fish wont be doing that weird thing where they dont get hooked... we will get some big ones in if that doesnt happen.
Good luck and be safe on the water, its getting cold!
