so i am hoping to be moving back to idaho in the near future but i wanted to check a couple things. its 6 months in the state to become a resident right? But say i move to idaho and want to fish before then. i can buy my out of state license but then what happens if in the fall after my 6 months is up i go to buy a hunting license and it shows i am out of state because of the fishing license? Am i better off waiting the 6 months without buying a license or what do you guys think?

I don't know for sure, but I don't think it will be a problem. Call F&G and ask them.

Yeah, it's six months to qualify for a residency license. That's six months from the time you actually apply to change your residency, not six months from the time you move here. I waited two months before applying for residency to get the maximum amount of time out of my WA car tags, and found I couldn't qualify for a resident fishing license until six months after that.

In your case, I don't think it would make a difference as far as the timing goes. If they ask why you have a non-resident fishing license and are applying for a resident hunting license, just show them your driver's license and explain you got the fishing license before you could qualify.

BTW, you may want to hold off until you qualify for a resident fishing license anyway, considering it's almost $100 for a non-resident license opposed to $26.

If you're active military, the residence requirement is only 30 days, though.

You're required by law to change your driver's license when you become a resident, which is 90 days after your main home is in Idaho (unless you're a student or military). You can declare residency any time before that, though.

http://itd.idaho.gov/dmv/driverservices/..._facts.htm

So basically, after 90 days you automatically become a resident and have to get a new driver's license. Or you can go in the first day after you have proof you live in the state and become a resident then and have to get a new license.

If you wait like I did, it makes the wait longer to get a resident fishing/hunting license. The timing of when I moved meant I would only have had a few months of fishing before the year was over and I would have had to buy a new license anyway, so I didn't bother.

If you prove to DMV that you are now a resident...with rental agreement, utility bills, you can get a driver's license.

if you have a driver's license then you can get a fishing license.....

I dont think they issue fishing license only if your driver's license is 6months old....they should issue it on the spot...

I dont htink you hve to wait six months unless you dnt plan on surrendering your out of state license...

Just a thought....
I believe I did that back in the day when i moved here.....

You can't buy a resident fishing license until you've been a resident for 6 months, ie 6 months after your ID driver's license is issued.

You're free to buy a non-resident license before then. It just costs about four times as much.

I work for a store selling license's. It is six months from when you move here not when you get an ID. You will have to prove that you have been here for six months. Proof can be a letter from an employer on a company letterhead vehicle registration or a copy of your lease(the criteria is listed in the front of the regs). You HAVE to have an idaho id when you get the license. If you can't prove the length of time that you have been here then they will go off the issue date of your id. There will be absolutely no problems mixing the resident and nonresident licenses.
