[Smile]I have usually parked across from the little house (caretaker's?) at the turn out just after you cross the dam from the highway. It is normally plowed, but it looks like they don't care how many can actually park there. On some days there is simply no room to park at that location.

Does anyone know if the parking lot just North of the turn out will be kept open for the Winter? I would be willing to walk down to the Narrows from there.

Thanks for any info!

Last time I was there it was locked up, that was about a month ago though.

Crimson the caretakers turnout is usually the only spot thats plowed on that side all winter long !!! Every once in a blue moon they will plow through the port ramp area as far as other turnouts go lake wide they are usually a stagin spot for excess snow..[crazy]

Be careful at the Port Ramp, the snow gets a lot deeper there than it looks. I spent the better part of a morning getting a guy and his young son unstuck from the snow because he tried to drive down too far. Afterwards he tried it again...and I had to help him get unstuck again. You guessed it, he backed up and got stuck Again. Pretty frustrating to get someone out of a pinch over and over, it's not that far of a walk from where it is safe to park to the water, it will save you a lot of time in the long run.

Thanks to all for providing information on the parking situation. I guess the answer is to get there early and hope there is still some room to park.

Good luck, and have fun on the ice this year!
