Well i heard there is 5" of safe ice @ Birtch creek res. Has any one been up there yet ?? Or has any one heard the same report ? Also do they plow the road to the dam or is it snow machine or 4X4 only ?? I watched Hooked on utah last yr when they fished it. The tigers were fat and sassy !! I wanted to get there last yr but was unable to make it.. With bad weather headed this way for the wk end i might head there tomorrow..
I gotta get on the ice !!! Hows scofield ??

Are you out of your flipping mind?...Dont you know you cant say B---- Cr--- 0n this forum? Holy Crap! This could start an all out keyboard war! Oh thats only if you catch fish and post pics........sorry I blew up!!
Seriously, I heard it the fishing was fair and the ice was thick enough. But you had to have a sled to get in there. We are thinking about trying it this weekend. Good luck if you go!

I was up there several weeks ago, yes we're the ones that started the keyboard war
I'm sure the ice is still good and the fishing should be the same. When we went we barely made it up the road so I'd imagine you would need a snowmobile, unless our post brought the numbers of people up there. If so they've probably packed the road pretty good. I've spent the last couple weekends at viva naughton

Do i need to park my sled at the dam and hoof it over or is there another way around ??

crm - hows naughton fishing?

Well once you get up the road to the parking lot there is a pretty steep little hill to climb, but I'd imagine you could make it to the top on your sled. If you do make it up let me know how it was, good luck

Naughton has been pretty slow, the numbers aren't there but we have managed a few nice fish. We've tried several different areas and it was about the same everywhere.

sorry for the confusion....just some sarcastic humor about a thread that somebody gave away the birch creek location when a guy posted some pics! it brought about a new rule that u cant disclose somebodys hot spot location when they post pics and a fishing report!

I disagree with the fishing only being good at first ice, there are a big number of fish in there you've just got to find them. And from what I've learned so far this year is the fish are real selective with color! At viva naughton last weekend we sat for a half hour with no bites, changed to the magic color and had bite after bite. I think it's all in presentation

I hate to say it, but even in the good years of BC the fish seem to go dormant after the ice has been on a while. In the past we have ALWAYS been able to atleast find the fish in that lake, even if they wouldnt bite, they were there. This year it seems you will find the schools of little bows (which are growing fast), but the tigers (especially bigger ones) are very far inbetween. I have never had any problems with color selection out of there. Its pink in the morning, green in the afternoon, but there are some days the fish just wont bite... Anything. In the past, that lake has completely turned off about mid to end of december for us. (Luckily its right when the berry heats up)

[#6000bf]It was -18 up here this morning. I would guess the ice is safe. We did get a decent storm so yes, access is difficult. [/#6000bf]
[#6000bf][/#6000bf]
[#6000bf]As far as the fishing goes, I haven't been up there yet. Its always been hit and miss for me up there. Those fish can do some strange things. Just when I think I have them figured out, I have a bad day...[/#6000bf]
[#6000bf][/#6000bf]
[#6000bf]I never worry much about it being "fished out". Besides the access, and long travel, those fish are some of the most unpredictable fish I have ever fished for..[/#6000bf]

Not one fished I iced at birch creek was on pink or green. Tried both colors but got nothing

Fishing Master "HookJaw Brimhall"
Why thank you Stevo [cool]
The ice is safe, the road is clear, the hill is easy to climb, and the fishing has been crappy. The reason it's been crappy is beacause I told everyone about it, so they kept all the fish and now there's none left in the lake.
That's what Stevo told me in a PM anyway [
].
