Anyone have a recent report as to thickness and safe ice?
Also wondering where most people get on the ice there. North or south side?

Read a report on another site that people had been out ice fishing on 2-4 inches of ice. Apparently was very slick underfoot with the rain then freezing temps. The two times I fished last winter I got on the ice on the north end of the dam right there at the state park and that was where most folks seemed to go. Hope this helps, with a few days of cold temps I would expect the ice to be quite safe. Take your cleats though! Let us know how you do if you go, I would be very interested. Hope this helps!

Thanks I think I read the same report. I'll be sure to make a report on how I do.

Well I went to Wallcot in hopes of some big trout. Fished for about 3 hrs and didn't see one on the finder. Fished 20' water to 10' water. 5" of ice, where I was.

There were 3 groups and one other.

One group 10 rods had no hits. Another had missed a couple and landed one. Another had missed 2. Not sure about the other group they were in front of the dam, I guess you can come in by the canal somehow.

Lots of ducks and a few geese in the middle were the entertainment.

I did meet a man who says he has not only the idaho record for a utah chub but it also is the world record. That's was exciting to meet him.Very cool.

For me it's strike one at Lake Wallcot.

Sorry things were slow. I have never fished. I remember some big fish caught there last year. Maybe it will pick up.

Michael,

Thanks for the report; I have always wondered about this place. Looks like you saved me about $40 in gas!
