Finally got my boat down to Carters today. Only a 45-55 minute ride!
Stopped by to get an annual fishing license for GA, wont be letting that go to waste as I plan on fishing Carters more cause that lake is just awsome. Hope you dont mind LB emoCool
Since it was only my 3rd trip to Carters and my first in my own boat I just wanted to get out there and get to know the lake better. We through nothing but FnF, and flies on dropshots. As soon as we got there around 10:30AM the clouds had moved out and it was sunny for pretty much the rest of the day. I think that killed the bite for everyone.
We fished alot of places before we got on a decent pattern. Fished mainlake bluff/humps/points.... no good for us today. Finally got in the creeks... and pretty much stayed in the creeks the rest of the day. Our pattern was fishing pockets with FnF in the creeks. We'd fish a pocket, idle to the next. Did this most of the day. Beating the banks was just not working. Anyways we managed 14 or 15 spots with 2 bream. Biggest was pushing 3lbs. Had another going 2.5-3lbs. Also caught alot of decent little 15-16inch fish. Had one more going atleast 3lbs pull off, and Jim missed 2 that felt pretty heavy. We also caught two 10-12 inchers (we called them Parksville spots) emoBigSmile
We fished every creek on the lake today. Had a good hour or two where we just couldn't get anything going, but the rest of the day we were able to steadily get bites. Oh, we also fished on the river too, but did not even find one fish up there.
Water temps were 51-53F, that is a great temp range for float and fly.
I am falling in love with Carters, may be a bad thing emoBigSmile But had a great time out there and will be back soon. Probably before I even fish Parksville again. I am ready for one of those days on Carters where the FnF bite is ON! Catching a few big spots in the mix, you just can't beat that.
I'm sure we saw Louie out there in his new Carolina Skiff... we atleast saw his truck at the ramp.
I will talk to you up there soon Louie, hope y'all did better than us!
