4 of us hit Mud lake first thing this morning. Ice is close to a foot thick. I drilled a ton of holes and we couldn't find any openings in the moss. Never even got a bite, so we decided to hit Roberts on our way home. Ice is probably 8 inches with a ton of little perch as usual. I think they are even smaller than last year, most were so small they couldn't fit my smallest ice fly into their mouths. Caught one small planter rainbow and several tiny perch. The perch in this video was the biggest of the morning, close to double the size of the rest of them.

Hey Maghunter - I saw you at both Mud Lake and Roberts this morning. You had a little clam city built there at Mud Lake! We got one bite at Mud Lake and the other guy we saw there got two bites. Roberts was as you posted 2 small trout and a pile of tiny perch.

Wow, from one extreme last year to the other this year. The main channel must have some open spots that are full of perch if you can find them.[Image: dumb.gif]

I talked to a friend on the phone ( while I was at Mackay) who was at Mud Lake this morning. Same experience as you, so it doesn't sound like they are back in numbers yet.

Those perch at Roberts are so small we can't even thin them out.

Maghunter,

Thanks for the report; for some strange reason I am looking forward to the small perch challenge. Last year was not a good year for Roberts. Sorry about the weeds at ML, your a good man for Checking it out!

They need to put a few tiger muskie in Roberts, see if that would help. It would also be nice if they planted some nice trout in there before it ices up. Give us something close by to fish until Ririe freezes up. I don't know what they could do for Mud Lake, I've had some great ice fishing out there in the past, but its been a few years. If they could somehow add another 10 feet of depth to that lake It would be as good as Chesterfield or Blackfoot reservoir I bet.
