Ice fished Mackay this morning and man was it colddddd!
The fishing was a bit different as the lake is up 10' from last year. I saw some big groups of fish along the bottom but they just wouldn't bite. At 12 to 15' depth over 40' of water it was constant all morning. After catching most of my limit I would just let them release at the hole and fish came in about every 10 minutes the whole morning until I left at 11:00.

Had the great pleasure of meeting a fellow BFT member Ovid Creek and his son on the ice. A great guy and someone you would want to fish anywhere with!

Nice job. Good to see you finally made it to Mackay. Catch any trout? I think I will head up again in the morning.

Trout don't like my scented and dyed pink corn. I didn't fish with any other bait as the Kokes were the target today. I think O.C. had a nice trout that they caught.

Glad to see that you had a good trip to Mackay. When I was there the fish started on the bottom and then came up, but I was fishing in much shallower water.

MMDon,

Great to meet you man and thanks for all the good fishing conversation. The action at 15' stoped right after you left, as you said a few fish on bottom and at 30' but rarely a taker. At 3;00 PM talked with a guy from Challis and he was fishing at that 30' foot bottom we were talking about moved near this area and man it got electric. Had a very fun hour icing one after another.

Hope to run into you again.

The guy from challis was he using the "nampa" shanty? he helped us target the fish at 30 feet as well when we were there.

ChrisTheFish and I fished Mackay on Tuesday and it was great! We fished in about 20 feet of water right on the bottom and killed the kokanee for the first couple hours. It got really great around 8:30 and they stayed around for an hour or so. We fished all day and caught several trout and a mess of kokanee. Right when we were wrapping things up around 4:30 or so the fish started biting like crazy again. Can't wait to get back up there! It seemed like the morning was really the best for us.

Mackay is always a fun lake to fish! I've met a lot of great people on that lake and the fishing is usually off the hook! [Image: happy.gif]
