Went by Pali

es today and it is still 100 percent open water. I did not see any boats out there nor did I pay any attention to see if the ramps had tracks or if they were even plowed. Didn't even think about that until later. The pond deal at Big Elk was frozen tho and did notice that road is not plowed as usual.
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.

Thank you for the update, on my favorite ice fishing spot! I still may go fish the Big Elk pond side; I need to catch a koke from Pali

I wasn't aware there were any kokanee in pali

es....hopefully that doesn't make me sound dumb! Are they very big or plentiful?

There are actually quite a few but they're tough to find in big groups. Only reason I know the numbers are there is if you hit big elk creek or bear creek in late Aug you can see them spawning.
On a second note- this is the perfect time to fish the bank- small bait/indicator and watch for the hesitation. Not really even a hard enough bite to notice except a hesitation. Did it once this year with fly fishing gear and did well. Bait last yr was great - has to be just before the ice starts to form. This causes those fish to circle the shallow water near the banks.
