Dr Phillip called me last night and asked if I was up for some striper fishing this morning and of course I was. He and his son, Jamie, accompanied me to the Riverpark for a brisk, chilly, start of 2 hours of great fishing. We had it all to ourselves. No one to run through the fish and spook them. It was wonderful. During that entire time that we fished (2 hours), we only had 1 drift that we didn't at least hook up on a fish. We landed 12 stripers, 3 drum, and 1 white bass. I hooked up 2 more stripers that pulled off after a minute or so fight. They were hurting my shoulder so I didn't mind too much that they pulled off.

Dr Phil was using a 1/8 oz jighead and 5" fluke and he caught the most Rockfish (5) including the 2 biggest ones. His biggest was weighed at Hamilton Sports Shop and it was 21 lbs even. The other big one was maybe 1 or 2 pounds less. Phil might have been the striper king today, but I'm still the Drumking. Jamie landed a big drum and I doubled on the same drift with its twin. On the next drift, I caught the biggest drum of the day. A beautiful Alabama smallmouth that was over 10 lbs. emoUp

Jamie caught 3 stripers and the one drum. His biggest Rockfish was 29 inches long and over 10 lbs. I landed a good white bass to go along with 4 Rockfish and 2 drum this morning.

On our last drift of the AM, Phil wanted to change our location just a little bit, so we ran a little higher up than where we were fishing and within 30 seconds of his cast, he said that he was hung on the bottom. By the time that we landed that fish, we had drifted through the RR trestle and down to the last barge tie off in the river. I had put 6 lb test Mr Crappie Hi-Vis yellow line on his reel and so we had to follow that big fish with the trolling motor all that distance. Jamie was great with the net while I kept the boat in perfect position as we brought that fish to bay.

I was using 6 lb test Suffix neon tangerine line and Jamie used 15 lb test braid on his reel. Water temp was 44.7 degrees when we quit fishing. emoBig
