Went out to the bear river in Wyoming after goldeneyes yesterday. We left at midnight to make sure we had enough time to get there in the storm, get our licenses and set up. For a guy that loves his sleep so much I'm starting to question how smart I really am, I seem to give up lots of beautiful hours of sleep for hunting each fall. Oh well. We made it there and only hit two snowshoe hares (never seen so many in my life) and missed all the deer that tried to derail us. Set up the layout blinds with snow covers on the banks of the river and waited for light. Birds, including lots of geese, moved out at first light and didn't come back till dark. We managed to bust a few but not the hunt we were hoping for. I ended up with a limit because I got out of the blind and hiked my butt off and the other three guys got a couple each. Shot my first ringneck which was pretty cool and my buddy shot a double of barrows goldeneyes, which none of us had ever seen before so we were pretty excited about that. looking to get that one mounted i think. Long trip, not a ton of birds but got some good stories and memories out of it to keep me warm in the off season.
