I have a regular set of ski type gloves, but I was never very happy using them fishing for a couple of reasons. The main reason is that they don't allow for enough dexterity to tie knots while wearing them. So I'd have to take one of the the gloves off and set it down or hold it under my arm while tying a knot, often while juggling the rod and reel at the same time. Really awkward.

Plus I use spinning gear, and when the bite is REALLY light, I have the best results if I feel pickups by resting the forefinger of the hand holding the rod against the line. Can't do that with gloves on.

I'd end up with wet, cold fingers because I'd be spending 75% of the time only wearing one glove. I looked at a couple of different models of glomitts, but couldn't find one I liked because none of them had the option to uncover the thumb.

Finally found a set I liked today. I picked up a set of these while visiting my parents near Seattle. I'm sure you can find them in ID also:

While you can't go sticking your hand in the water, there's no danger of accidentally dropping the mitt in the water, either. Can't wait to get home and test them out while fishing.
