Thought I'd take Sparky for a short fishing trip to the Weeb yesterday below Echo. Stayed a little longer than I intended. Good deal of snow which made walking a little tough for both of us. Was worried how his shoulder was going to hold up in the snow and for that long. Anyway, caught several smallish browns and lost a fair sized one when it got tangled up in Sparky's legs and while trying to get the hook out of his leg fur it got off. Oh well, would have released him anyway. Then I spent an hour untangling my 2 fly and dropper weight the was a tangled mess but finally got going. Caught a nice sized whitie (18") which resulted in losing my lower fly and dropper weight. Decided that Sparky probably had far too much exercise and best to get him home. His problem is out on the river he gets so enthusiastic/exuberant that he wouldn't show any negative effects, limping, etc. until he's home.
Well, great news, he seems fine today. Maybe he's finally on the mend. Still have to be careful though. Flies used were my standard cased caddis, tipped with a wax worm and a prince, as usual.
P.S. I went back and forth with myself to add this as part of my post because I just didn't want the usual bad mouthing from you know who types. Now that I've had a drink (or 2) I've decided to let folks "deal with it" and either enjoy or take "cheap shots". What the "hey", I'm old enough now to take this stuff for what it's worth. Anywho, during our trip towards the end I had caught a small brown and left it go in the shallows. Good ol Sparky, my bud, chased it down and I thought that's his reward. Well, after a few minutes, I looked over and I saw the tail disappearing down his mouth. No worries, you didn't exceed your limit. Kochanut isn't your dog a little young to be washing that bone down with a hefeweizen. By the way I'm pretty sure Pilzen goes better with rawhide[Wink].

I take Baxter out on my pontoon, but do take him on some river hikes. He really hates water though and sometimes, just gets lost in the grass

kochanut and others.
I have a story to tell abpout young yellow labs. This was many years ago. I had volunteered to baby sit a neighbors and fellow hunter's 1 yr. old yellow lab while they went on a trip. Well, Jessy (my then golden bud) and I decided to go duck hunting while my wife took care of the lab. Limited out with 7 ducks, a mixed bag, brought them home, breasted em and left em in a bag on the back porch while I went inside to rinse and package the breasts. Came back out and there set the young female lab with feathers in her mouth with a Big Grin, OH, Oh, ------------ , not only did she have a meal, but she ate all 7, feet. bills and everything. [shocked][shocked][shocked] Man, her belly was dragging on the ground and I got real scared on what might well be the result. Well, we watched her and the only thing of note was a several feathers in her poo in the next several days. WOW Never told the owner until much latter. [:/] He had a good laugh.
