Heath and I got up there again today. We put in around 11:30 or so and took out at dark. There were quite a few boats out there today. But after about 4PM we were the only ones out there.
We started off kind of slow, trying to get a pattern going. Just a couple days ago we caught our fish on the mainlake but the mainlake was way too windy to fish. We ran by our first spot to try to catch some white bass... fish were there in small schools but could only get one to bite. But we only fished it a few minutes because of the wind.
Moved into and stayed in the creeks to get out of the wind for the rest of the day pretty much. Bite was slow but managed to catch 9 or 10 bass and missed a few others on dropshots, FnF, and even got one on a fishheadspin. Only caught one bass under 14.5 inches, so that was nice. We had 4 bass going 17-17.5" with one being a good chunky largemouth. Then we had a nice spot going 18.5 inches too. With this cold weather we are catching solid fish mostly, which is nice. Best 5 would've been over 10-12lbs. All fish were keepers except for one spot that was about 12". Bite was slow but was steady. The fish are hard to locate I guess since they are mostly on the bottom and you can't mark them with the sonar. Scattered for sure.
By 4:30PM we headed to our spot that is full of white bass so we could load up on em! They were there and we whacked em good! Caught atleast 25 whites with an additional keeper spot. I was using a spoon and Heath was getting more bites with a crappie jig on a dropshot rig. But with the spoon I had 2 absolutely HUGE feeling fish get off. I figured they were big spots. Because I know the spots are there too. They could've been big white bass or even catfish. Dont know.
Will be up there next Wed. with dad. He is coming into town and we're gonna try to get on em. Hope the white bass stay there, they are fun to catch!
Heath has a couple pics of the 2 biggest bass of the day, I think he will upload em here soon. Have a great Christmas and good new year everyone, it has been a great year here in East Tennessee for us! emoToast
