Headed to Ririe w/ the faint hope maybe it was frozen. As expected I was disapointed. The whole thing is open water still. However I did get to see several deer. There were 5 groups of deer that I saw in the fields above the res. and some of them were big bucks! From there I headed to Rigby lake figuring it would be frozen. Fortunately it was. There were a couple others out there. 3 guys in a red command post type tent, and then a guy w/ his kids trying to catch something. The guys in the tent said they were in 4 feet of water. I found out later it was more like 3. The others were in 3.5 feet of water. I started out near them and no one was catching. After a bit I moved around searching for deeper water and found some around the 7 ft depth. A few minutes after dropping a line there I noticed a blip on the marcum. seconds later the jigger totter started doing it's thing (great test of it!). About 30 seconds later we had iced a 10" rainbow. This turned out to be the only fish but I did discern some depths for future trips and found the jigger totters live up to the hype. Also the ice is about 6-8" and solid.

Thanks for the Ririe report.
Not many fish in the Rigby pond this year.

I fished Ririe for the first time last year on 12 -29 (tomorow). Its supposed to cool off with this next front, hopefully its enough to put some ice on Ririe.

This is from my fishing journal two years ago for my first 3 days on the ice at Ririe:
Quote:
1.16.09 Ririe***** Ririe, Fri, Ice Is Here! 1 Koke, 30', Ice 4" Sunny and 34, ramp clear 1/3rd from top, Solunar 25. I had to stay 200 feet from the Island to get on the ice but it was sure nice to be back after a year away. Only one Koke but I was happy to have it! The fish came in a school that the FF located at 30'. The weather was great but the Solunar was below 25 so not much moving. The guys on thinner ice did much better towards the island but I was happy being safe!
1.17.09**** Ririe, Sat, Clear, 6 Kokes, 8 degrees, Solunar 32, Depth, 16 to 19' in 56 feet of water.
1.18.09***** Ririe, Sun, Clear, 6 Kokes, 5 degrees and windy, Solunar 18, Depth 16 to 19' in 43 feet of water, Ice 4". It all came together this morning and I was off the ice by 9:15. A big school came in and I doubled on one rod and easily limited out on the rest. If it stays cold the whole lake will be fishable in a week.

Wow Rigby must have dropped fast. Last year I found a 23ft. deep hole.
I believe Ririe will crust over this weekend if the wind doesn't come up. I am really hoping it will freeze solid fast. My permanent shack is close to done and I need a quick place to go close to home.
