Anyone know if or how frozen Oneida is?

Went up on the 26th, it was frozen but it was a bit scary. About 3 inches of ice, 2 inches of rotten stuff ontop of about an inch of good stuff. if you go take a rope and be careful.
The fishing was a bit slow. one rainbow and two jumbo perch.

Sounds good, hopefully someone will chime in that hit it over the weekend. I'd sure like to pull some walleye and smallies through the ice! Thanks for the info dim!

I'm headed up in the morning I'll let you know how the ice and the fishing is. I have never fished there so I don't even know where to start. Does anyone have any tips in where to go, and what general areas of the lake to avoid due to bad ice,or bad fishing?

Dont go by the dam. The ice is very sketchy. Especailly if they have let any water out. I would go more towards the middle of the res or to the point by the camp ground

Thanks, I appreciate it.

How much of the road along the res is open?? Are you on a snow machine?

I haven't been over that way this winter, but in times past the only part of the road open above the dam has been the north end up to the hot springs. Has that changed?

Haven't been up there either, but am drawn by the Walleye potential. There's a series of marked up maps, mostly Tubedude's doing.
Wondering if anyone has such a map of Oneida?

How accessible is the lake from the roads? Cleared roads, parking nearby? Or major 4WD - snowmachines?

Tia.
Plowed only to the dam. The north side plowed to hotsprings with open water. Was some indication of ppl ice fished by the dam BUT DIDNT GO ON ICE. don't know thickness of ice or how much snow on ice sry.

As said before the road is plowed to the dam, with 4WD I was able to drive to the campground. fishing was slow for me, I caught a few small perch and a little over a foot long walleye. It was my first walleye through the ice, so that alone made the trip worth it for me. I didn't measure the ice but I would guess it's a good six inches by the campground. The ice by the dam did look pretty sketchy, but people had been out on it, I'm sure it was better than it looked. I stoped at a different pond on the way home and got a few pretty good perch to eat with the walleye tonight, so it ended up being a pretty great day.

Thats awesome, should be good for a weekend trip then, thanks for the info!

Can anyone tell me if the road along the reservoir is passable from the north by the hot springs? I'm thinking about going this weekend but I'm coming from the north so need to know if I can get to the ice from that direction or if I need to go all the way around. Any info is greatly appreciated!

How was the current under the ice? I know in the summer when I've been bank fishing the current would drag my line towards the dam, just wondering if the same applied through the ice.

well went to onida today!!! Got there around 8:30 poles in water.... Fish didn't start to hit tell around 10:30 only got one lunky perch in very brite colors as well... Had another one hooked but I just had to adjust my drag in the middle ad lost it... And had multipal other hits... On the way out had to pull some poor guy out his company sent him out in a brand new ford f150 with no 4wd the 4wd was broke poor guy... Got him out... And then headed to twin lakes see twin lakes report for further info..

oh yeah the ice by the camp ground is a solid foot thick with about a 2 inch layer of crust that will make your heart drop when you step on it...

How was the road? Did you come from the north or south? No walleye. Thanks for any info

the roads wernt to bad but be carfull and I came from the breston side.. Iit looks like the road has a path all the way through though.... Seen a cougar hunter drive by that went all the way through... And I might have been hooked into a walleye but I can't say didn't get it in to see for sure.... The ice next to the dam still looks way sketchy still... And as for the curent it didn't have any affect didn't even notice it...
