I have an 83' Sears 'Ted Williams' gamefisher 9.9hp outboard that stopped spitting water out of the tiny hole on the back last time I used it in 2010. I noticed it and did not let the engine die by itself or over heat I dont think, I just shut it off and ran my electric.
I have finally obtained the impeller from Sears online and talked to Lee up at Lees Marine in Hyrum, but after speaking with him I dont have the jingle to pay him to do the work on it.
Is anyone familiar with this type of motor that can give me any advise on how to replace the impellar? I think there is a bearing I may need also?

All of the little motors are basically the same in form and function. Do a search on youtube, there are several step by step instructional videos to walk you through the process. I had never done one before and I was able to get through my 6HP Merc and felt comfortable enough with it that I did the 75 HP main motor the next fall. It really isn't difficult at all and after you do it once you will feel a lot better about what is going on in there. The only advice I have is to pay attention to which direction the fins are bent and rotating because once you take the old impellar out you can spin the new impellar in the housing in the wrong direction. The only issue I ran into was aligning the shift rod back up when putting the lower unit back together. No big deal, just took a little time to get everything lined up and bolted back into place.
Honestly, don't be afraid of it. Watch the video and take the thing apart, it's a simple job. After you've done it once, it is maybe a 15 minute job.

Did you check to see if the hole isn't just clogged up?

Very good point.....lake water usually isnt the purest. Ive had to take some small wire and clean the exit tube....be careful not to puncture the line.
I keep about a foot of 10 guage coated electrical wire on the boat for this purpose...the coating helps keep from damaging water tube.

Most manufacture recommend that the impeller is changed every year or 2 as routine maintenance, so even if the water outlet is plugged, the same debris that plugged the water outlet has also gone through the impeller this is what causes them to wear, plus being that the impeller is made of rubber it tends to take a set (which means the blades become curved and no longer flex to sweep the housing like they do when they are new) this also causes a lack of water flow.
