Went to Willard for some night fishing for Walleye and Cats. I didn't see any other holes where I went and the ice was a good 4 inches thick. I didn't catch any walleye but did manage one small cat and three decent perch. The perch were 9, 11 and 12 inches and pretty fat. They all had shad in their bellies. I graphed a few large schools of shad swimming past and a few larger fish. I fished in 13 feet of water.

Look like some chunky monkeys!
Were you in one of the bays? Is the main lake still open? Somehow I doubt those fat shad munchers weren't as timid on the bite as Mantua's little tap-tap-dinkers.
Been hoping to catch the harbors freezing up b4 the lake does. Walleye and Crappie on the brain!
Thanks for the report.
thanks for the report. Can you answer some quesitons like what part of the lake and what you where using. How long where you there. My five year old son and I want to go try that lake soon for some cats. Thanks for your help.

[angelic] And who said perch don't bite at night?

I'm guessing that these fish were caught in one of the marinas where the lighting could give perch enough vision to feed at night.
I,ve pounded the heck out of perch during the day at pineview and had them shut off just like a switch after it gets dark.
perch fishing isn't usually very fast at willard but man there are some jumbos out there
ice on almost everywhere ! you gotta love it !

I was in the south marina bay. I was there from 4-9 but didn't start fishing until it started getting dark because I was playing with my dogs. I caught them on meal worms and night crawlers. I had alot of other bites I couldn't hook. Not sure what they were.
Thanks for the good info.
