My son and I went up yesterday and tried to get to Current Creek but the road wasn't even plowed coming off the highway so we came back and hit Chicken Creek east. It took us a while to find the fish and ended up walking almost to the point where we could have gone around to the corner to CC west. The ice was 3-5 inches of clear ice with four inches of frozen slush. The slush layer was soft in places but was freezing up when we left. We found fish in the 15-25 foot range. In the morning they hit white tube jigs tipped with a crawler. In the afternoon they took ratfinkies tipped with crawler. They wouldn't take the meal worms I tried. I lost track of how many we caught but I know I was way over 20. We got to try out a couple of new toys we got for Christmas, a Marcum fish cam and a new color GPS Humminbird. We knew fish were in the area with the locator and would then watch their antics on the camera. I now know why we miss so many light taps at the berry. Some of the fish would circle the jigs and head bump them without mouthing the jig. They would then bite the jig and take off before the pole would show a bite. It was a great day with no clouds and no wind. It was a chilly -2 when we got there and when we left. One fish got me thinking I had a monster, it was pulling drag like crazy and bending my ice pole to the max. It turned out that I had a 21+ incher foul hooked. We also caught a bunch of smaller cuts. We turned all of our fish back so someone can catch them later.
