I have a 16 foot Lund Rebel with a 55 hp bow mount. When the trolling motor was new it was great for just about any kind of trolling I wanted to do. That is until I decided to try musky trolling. The 55 just does not have enough thrust to pull my boat for this kind of trolling.

The 55 is dead and now I have an opportunity to upgrade, but I'm not sure about a couple of things. Currently I have the trolling motor battery hiding under the front storage area on the boat. The space is perfect for one battery. If I go to next size up I will need two batteries.

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has tried this. I'd like to know if the motor can still be controlled for lower speed trolling. I'd also like to know where you placed the two batteries. I've considered trying under the front seat, but the space there is a bit tight.

Thanks for any help.

Do you have a gas motor on your boat? if so is it 4 or 2-stroke?

Two stroke Johnson 40 (15 years old). Works fairly well for getting me from point A to point B but very difficult to control at low speeds and quite loud.
