Hey Everybody,

I am new to Utah and I am looking for spots to take my daughter fishing. I don't mind working to find the fish but with her age she is a little less enthusiastic. I was wondering if one is able to ice fish the community fisheries. If not any suggestions for places that are close to Sandy (within an hour) with easy access?

Thanks.

I'm not sure on thickness this year but I ice fished Bountiful Lake last year. There was about 10" of ice and I caught a few bows. It has capped this year.

I fish Salem Pond quite a bit. It's maybe a little farther south than an hour depending on how close you are to I-15. It does not freeze over and even if it did you're not allowed to ice fish there. It is full of trout (lots of albinos) and is also loaded with channel catfish, bluegill, and the occasional bass. If you need any tips down there hit me up.

I was thinking about that, from what I understand most of the fishing is in the harbors, any suggestions on which one would be the best?

Not sure where you live but Companies pond in East Layton is always good for some pan size trout and bass or crappie. I haven't been up there yet this year, so I couldn't tell you if its frozen or not, but if you go up there and happen to catch a Blackberry storm its mine. I set it on my chair next to my rod and when I went to set the hook I knocked over the chair and the biggest walleye I have ever seen came and swallowed it like a crappie. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. If you catch it, you can keep it though[Wink]
