Hey all was curious, is it illegal to sell a fish that was caught on utah waters? I ask because I personally underwater spearfish for carp that I use as a great bait for Catfish. I have been tempted to offer to sell some of them at bait cleaned and cut but I while reading the '11 Fishing Handbook it states "[size 2]
You may not purchase or sell protected aquatic wildlife or its parts except as provided in the Wildlife Code, rule, proclamation or order of the Wildlife Board " Does that include carp? Just curious

Carp is definitely legal to use as cut-bait. TD has a nice writeup showing how to filet the beasts and cut into nice kitty-bite-size strips.
Pulls in many a fat-cat from the waters of Willard and UL on them strips. Had to try some myself, and finally hooked up my first carp late this fall. Of course it's pretty well AFTER most good catfishing season.... but they're well froze, plus can tip through the ice.
I learned recently that stores like Smith and Eddies, and Sportsmans Warehouse sell chub filets, and such. I know TD's got minnows he caught for sale, so I don't know why carp would be any different.
I'd think you should be able to, unless someone tells us otherwise. I really don't think common carp fall into any "protected" categories in Utah waters. But I could be wrong.
as far as i know you can sale non-game fish. such as chub,carp, red side shiners, dace, sucker, or any other bait fish.. ya might need a permit or something to do it tho ya might want to check on that with the DWR..
you can not sale game fish such as trout, perch, bass, so on.. and any fish on the protected list.. june sucker, humpback chub, pike minnow, stuff like that..

When I was a kid my uncle used to sell all that stuff in Lakeview down on the lower Geneva Road. He had to have a seining liscence from the DWR to siene the minnows with a net and then had to pay royalties on what he sold. I'm pretty sure you can catch them for your own personal use without the legal documents. It's just when you sell them to the public that you need to follow the procedures unless things have changed. If you are interested in selling non game fish as bait in Utah you would need to contact your local DWR office and obtain a Certificate of Registration or COR for that purpose. There is a fee for the COR but it would then allow you to collect, by any legal means, non-game fish that are permissable to use as bait in Utah. The commercially available baits sold at Utah retailers are obtained from sources that have such CORs or from out of state.
Hopes this helps. The fishing guide book doesn't include this information because this issue doesn't deal directly with sportfishing.

Yeah, My uncle is a great guy and tought me alot about fishing. He's still out all the time at 78 years old. Hope I can still do what he does when I'm that old if I ever get there.
