Does anyone know where i can get some auger blades sharpened? I would like to get them sharpened instead of replacing them for $34.00 plus shipping. I live in salt lake so anywhere from salt lake to provo would work. thanks.

This would be good info to know. Gets expensive to always buy new blades.

I found out that is WAY better to have two sets of blades. Then you can send one away to be sharpened.

Try this place. I had some done there last year. Seems like it was about $15

I received a very nice sharpening kit for Christmas several years ago. It has the ability to hold the sharpening stone at a constant angle so you can do precision sharpening on pretty much anything. I've done my own auger blades twice now, and it has worked like a charm. This is the kit at Cabela's [url "http://www.cabelas.com/product/GATCO8482-Diamond-Hone-System-Knife-Sharpener/732415.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dsharpen%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=sharpen&WTz_l=Header;Search-All%20Products"]here. It is pricey, but it pays for itself eventually and it's not particularly difficult to use.

I have a strikemaster blazer auger. Blades aren't cheap. They make a sharpener for those blades you can get for less than $15. Not sure if any stores around here sell it. Amazon was the cheapest. Less than $12 shipped.

I was looking at that today also. If you get one let me know if it works or not.

I tried the sharpener featured here but it never did a great job. I think that tool is more for "refining" an already moderately sharp edge. I couldn't tell a huge difference after using this sharpener. I'd save your money and get a quality sharpening kit where you can control the angle you put on your blades.

Thanks for that. I haven't purchased one yet, but was thinking about it.

2 Years ago my wife got me a lansky knife sharpening kit for christmas would you think that i could use that to sharpen my blades? I can set the angle that i want to sharpen at. What kind of tool do you use? Thanks for all the help.

Buy and Accusharp auger blade sharpener. They work awesome and are about 12 dollars.
Sportsmans Warehouse used to have them. I don't know if they still do or not.

I don't know if this will help anyone but I have a 8" Strikemaster/Mora auger. I was looking for a set of new blades and came across another brand that fit for a lot less money. They are "HT Polar Ice" They have the same hole configuration but a slightly different shape. I just used them this week and they work perfectly. I found them at a sporting goods store in town for $13.49. A lot cheaper than 29.99 to 44.99. Amazon has them for 10.95 plus 6.95 shipping. At that price you could just throw them away when they get dull.

As for sharpening the guy at the sporting goods store said never sharpen the bottom of the blade. On the angle side sharpen in one direction toward the edge with a course stone. The lines left on the blade are a good thing. Causing it to be somewhat serrated. He said that is what cuts the ice. My blades felt very sharp but were smooth at the edge. It was taking me about 5 minutes to drill 1 hole. With the new blades it only takes seconds. I am going to sharpen my old blades for backup. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, I'll have to give those a try. Found some on Amazon for $10 + $5 shipping. I have about 4 sets of older blades so it will be great to sharpen them up again!
