Got an invite from a friend to go up to Bear Lake as we bravely faced the 10 degree temps with optimism. We had been previously and had caught both lake trout and cutts. Tried to launch from First point and it was a bit dicey with floating ice chunks and a built up dropoff from the wind splashing against the boat ramp.
Ending up launching at Cisco Beach with no problems and no ice. Nothing was plowed at this point. (When we left and drove past First point on our way home, it had been plowed.) Headed over to the Rock pile and proceeded to stay until 1 or so. Ended up catching 11 fish, all cutts, with 3 around 4lbs. We had a hard time graphing fish and only went to waypoints from previous successful adventures and that seemed to work well. Had to break up some ice when we got there but it all melted and was pushed off by the wind.
We tried to see if any cisco were there yet with a dropped castmaster. No takers. Kept two small cutts and no cisco in their bellies. Still, like on schedule, a couple weeks away. Good luck and stay safe. LC
If you were wondering, we didn't see the Bear Lake Monster.
-Here is some pics of the 3 best fish of our 3 trips.
