We got there about 9:00. First thing I see was a dead fish in the snow by the boat ramp. I pick it up and it looks a little bit like a shark? I wish I would have taken a picture. It had skin that looked like leather a wide head, and the mouth was on the bottom like a sturgeon. The skin on the belly was gray with dark spots. I tossed it up to my truck and went fishing. This is the second time in my life I have "tried" ice fishing. Well we cut two holes with a hand crank in about 14" of ice. I won't be doing that again. We fished in those holes for about an hour. NOTHING! We moved and found some holes other guys had cut. I used a steel bar and opened them up. We fished in those holes for about two more hours. NOTHING! We moved over to where the warm water comes in. There was a ton of fish there at the inlet. All were very small and didn't want anything we had. So my second time on ice ended with a skunk.
We head to the truck and here is a F&G guy that is a friend of mine. I told him about the fish and showed it to him. He thought it was a Sturgeon but I showed him it didn't have the spines down it. I asked him if it was one of those fish that are in fish tanks that suck on to the glass and clean the tank? He took the fish and was going to turn it over to the Biologist.
We left there and went to Fish creek. We pulled up the the parking lot on the east side of the dam. Some chukar hunters were there. One was stripping his clothes off. I jumped out with a dollar bill. Not good taste but good for a laugh. They were great guys and we talked for a while after they were dressed[Image: yell.gif]
They were walking across the lake and the one guy went in. They said the ice was not good and showed me the "spot" where he went in. We didn't even walk out since I didn't want to go for a swim. But looking down at it you could see water on top in a few places. I won't go back. Ron

Ron I am sorry you had such a bad day, bt I am really glad you didn't get wet, that would have made it worse.

Sounds like you didn't have your fish finder with you. It really helps when you can mark fish and see whats happening down there.

Also sounded like your blades on your auger might be slightly dull. I am sure you know that if they were new it would make a difference,

A friend and I are going to Big Sand Bay today (sat) maybe some Saturday you might come along.

Are you thinking the mystery fish was caught there or planted there as a joke? It will be interesting to hear what it is.

Did you have any worms? We've always managed to get the little fish at the inlet to bite, summer or winter, so my son could catch some fish.

Our ice auger came from Harbor Freight several years ago. It is about 4.5" and is razor sharp and easy to crank through thick ice.

Michael, thanks for the offer. I might have to try to do that.
mudsucker, I think someone caught it there and left it.
My auger feels sharp but I don't know. I will probably just go to Salmon dam and mooch a hole from Michael [Image: bobwink.gif].

Nice job on the perch Michael! I got one of those 10 inchers at greys landing on thursday. Do you mind sharing specifics such as depth/area/bait? I hope to do a lot
more exploring at SFCR now that I live in twin falls. Maybe I'll run into you out there sometime.
