We got there about 9:00. First thing I see was a dead fish in the snow by the boat ramp. I pick it up and it looks a little bit like a shark? I wish I would have taken a picture. It had skin that looked like leather a wide head, and the mouth was on the bottom like a sturgeon. The skin on the belly was gray with dark spots. I tossed it up to my truck and went fishing. This is the second time in my life I have "tried" ice fishing. Well we cut two holes with a hand crank in about 14" of ice. I won't be doing that again. We fished in those holes for about an hour. NOTHING! We moved and found some holes other guys had cut. I used a steel bar and opened them up. We fished in those holes for about two more hours. NOTHING! We moved over to where the warm water comes in. There was a ton of fish there at the inlet. All were very small and didn't want anything we had. So my second time on ice ended with a skunk.
We head to the truck and here is a F&G guy that is a friend of mine. I told him about the fish and showed it to him. He thought it was a Sturgeon but I showed him it didn't have the spines down it. I asked him if it was one of those fish that are in fish tanks that suck on to the glass and clean the tank? He took the fish and was going to turn it over to the Biologist.
We left there and went to Fish creek. We pulled up the the parking lot on the east side of the dam. Some chukar hunters were there. One was stripping his clothes off. I jumped out with a dollar bill. Not good taste but good for a laugh. They were great guys and we talked for a while after they were dressed
They were walking across the lake and the one guy went in. They said the ice was not good and showed me the "spot" where he went in. We didn't even walk out since I didn't want to go for a swim. But looking down at it you could see water on top in a few places. I won't go back. Ron
