Were at pineview and it is really slow right now. We are at brown ing point in 30 of water and not catching a thing. What do you think were doing wrong?

What are you fishing with (bait, jigs -- type and size)? Consider trying in deeper water.

You didn't say how large of jig, but I would go extremely small. Also, perch are often caught at most an inch or two off of the bottom, so if you haven't tried fishing right on the bottom try that.

I was there Friday, fishing with smoke on the water between cemetary and browning point(s). we fished in estimated 35 to 50 feet of water and caught our fish right on bottom about 3 inches up is all!! Most were dink perch but we had good numbers, maybe close to 20-25 fish between two of us I think, I didnt keep a tally on them exactly. I was using the standard crawler on the jig i used for the bottom lure 1/4 oz. maybe 3/16 oz. with a "stand out" hook above that with gulp anything on it. I caught the Crappie on the gulp, the perch on the worm, the other rod i used had just a ice fly tipped with gulp and the same hook up higher abot 18 inches from bottom hook on both. i caught fish on both setups all day. we used perch eyes too after we go into some that had at least 8 inches of scales. LOL.
GOOD LUCK, try deeper water right on bottom.
Switch up your jigs .lower your jig right on the bottom and lift up real slow wait for the hit.Spikes worked great for me all day.Hope that helps you out.

We were at PV yesterday and slayed the Perch and some smaller Crappie...we were fishing 40-45'...only one 10" Perch others 7-8" agree with what others stated...also if your dead sticking it...meaning no jigging action they won't bite...get the rod in the hand and jig...also found they didn't seemed interested in jigs that give a horizontal presentation say like Ratsos...they liked the vertical jig presentation...Nuclear ants tipped with waxie, spike, perch eye worked well. Good Luck!!!
Our take from yesterday.

Nuclear Ants are the hot ticket right now. White ants below a silver or glow cast master worked really good for me. Make sure to drop the castmaster to the bottom and slam it into the bottom a few times then real up just a bit.

I just sent you a PM, that should get you into the fish. I fished there today from 8-12. I caught around 60-70 perch and one huge mamma carp. Hope it helps ya out and good luck, you won't catch them for sure if you don't have a line in.

I respectfully disagree about dead sticking and horizontal jigs. I caught lots of perch today and yesterday the majority on horizontal jig and plenty of them dead sticking. I also disagree with the depth, saw far too many people fishing in water too deep. While I didn't catch any 12" fish caught plenty that are "keepers". Would love to hear anything that is working on the crappie though. Them things are kicking my butt[

We ended up catching about 100 after finding out:
1. We were to deep
2. Wrong spot in the water
3. We were using the wrong bait
We found out our best bet was using a perch eyeball (As long as I got one) and going down the bottom and realing up .5 or 1 reel off the bottom.. That was the trick..
Thanks for all your help. And especially Mickey Anderson from Fish Tech in Salt Lake City that helped me figure out what I needed to do and those lures he gave me.
If you need some ice fishing stuff I would go to them, they know how to catch fish(and what to use to catch them) and seemed like a really nice fellow..
Thanks all.

Well done! It has surprised me how many people go fish in such deep water. I haven't seen anyone catching any more fish and that is definitely the trick, gotta be "on" the bottom.

Nice job! I'm glad you got into some fish[cool]

One of the best pieces of advice I've gotten about perch fishing is that if you aren't catching any fish............move. It's a big lake and if you have an auger don't be afaid to use it. Fish where the fish are.

My guess is the jig was too big. My fishing partner started with a tiny jig really not large at all I was using a rat finke below a Kastmaster. I was catching fish on every drop while they caught nothing...no bites nothing.. Switched to a ratfinke and started catching right away.
