I'm going to have a group of 12-13 year old boys out on the ice next Friday overnight to Saturday. We will be camping on the ice over by Sage Hen across from the Ladders. Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of the current ice thickness or conditions in this area or has anyone been on or seen snowmobiles around there? Thanks for any info.

I was there yesterday and there was 8 inches of good ice and numerous 4 wheelers and snowmobiles on the ice.

I was there on Saturday too. Saw a few sleds moving over the ice. There was 5 inches of clear ice with 3 inch of white ice over it. Fishing was slow but figure it was the low pressure (Weather) that was coming in that evening.
Good luck to you and your boys.[cool]

A group of 12-13 year olds huh. You must be very patient. I would bring a whole group of extra warm close. Guarantee that one of the boys will forget a coat or boots, or my favorite . . .show up in shorts. Those 12 - 13 year olds don't think with their brain too well. Anyway, hope your group gets into fishing. At that age if they caught a few bigs ones they will want to go even more. Good luck.

Yea, been doing this type of trip or stuff similar with 12-15 year old boys for about 15 years now and have seen some funny stuff. Had a kid on a Uintas backpack trip break out lunch his mommy had packed for him on the first day (of 6) with a microwave meal in it. Asked him if he had a microwave and generator in his pack as well - he said it was pretty nasty eaten cold. Anyway, we've been preparing for this ice trip for a few weeks now so I think we're good - we always have a pack/clothes check the week before too.

I was at the Ladders yesterday and I could see tracks on the Knoll from a sled or wheeler that had made a couple of passes up and down the southeast side. Saw a sled in the afternoon running around on the ice at the Ladders while fishing and measured the ice in my hole at 11" with the fish measuring board. I was 0.2 miles out from the parking lot.

Thanks for the info - good walking up there?

Yes, just 1 or 2" of powder on the ice and no slush. Parking lot was plowed with large piles on the edges.
