Hey guys just wondering if anyone knows any place around lava hot springs that I could take my scout troop camping in February? We will be setting up tents and the boys would like to go swimming when we get down to lava on Friday night and then get up on Saturday morning and go fishing at Chesterfield. I know we could camp right at Chesterfield but it would be nice to camp closer to lava so we could set up camp first on Friday night, then go swimming. Any info would be awesome. Thanks.

luckly for you I just happen to live here in lava [

] and would be more than happy to tell you some good places to take them camping.... Now I'm guessing this might be the klondike derby warm up... Any way on blazer hyw the road to chesterfield from lava.. There are multipal places to cam there is a camp ground on the right I forget the name of it as soon as you turn onto blazer highway.. Then there is lower sportsmans access on the left next to the river.. Which is open now all year right now it's artificial barbless only... And then there is the upper portneuf access up further... Then after that is back side of pebble which is also known as big springs camp ground.... Them would be your best bets...

Here is a picture of the Portneuf River Access area above Lava. When I was posting on the Portneuf access it was mentioned that the access areas aren't plowed out.
You might check with the county road crew for that area, and see if they would open it for you, or find out who has jurisdiction there.
That post is here:

"And for those that want to fish upper portneuf above lava the sportsman access are not plowed out so it will take a serious 4wd or snowmachine to get right up to the river other than that it's walking in from the main road. Which isn't a bad walk for those that know the area.. The river is still super high as well above lava I think there is a beaver dam some where in the system."

I know the guy that posted that very well... Well I would hope I do seems how it is myself... Any way I know plenty of people in this area that could go plow out an area to park off of the main road. If it were for scouts... Just let me know where at if it's the lower portneuf access then I an get it plowed out to the bathrooms probly with long enough notice... I could even go there and beat a good pth down with the wheeler if needed.. Seems how I live right there next to the river on blazer... Just give me a couple days notice and I'll see if I can get it opend up..

Thanks a bunch man. I would greatly appreciate your help. I will keep in contact with you and let you know all the details when we are headed down a couple day ahead of time. It would be cool to have you join us at Chesterfield if you want to. I will be in touch with you.

hey any time... I know what it's like to want to go some where and not be able to because of it being hard to get in to with out special equipment.. And if I am not buissy I'll join at chesterfield I'll even come show you all some spots on the river to catch some nice little trout... On spinners.. But really if I have at least a week of advance if it is the lower portneuf access then I can and will get it cleard out or packed down ..
