If anybody is heading up to Bear Lake next weekend to try their luck for the cisco, stick around for the polar plunge. This is the 2nd Annual Bear Lake Monster Polar Plunge, all proceeds are going to Primary Childrens Medical Center. It will be on Saturday (22nd) at 12:00 noon at the Bear Lake Marina. Last year there were 40 brave jumpers! Prizes for the highest donation amount and the best costume. It was alot of fun, I went in twice. This year my wife and two youngens are jumping with me. A great family event and all for a good cause.

My wife and daughter want to come up for the day. Sounds like fun. Is there anything I need to bring (pot luck, fees, swimsuit). Also what kind of fishing gear should I bring. I don't really have a cisco net. I'd love to do some fishing for bigger fish too but I don't know what setup to use if its not Iced up. Can't wait should be a good time.

Minimum donation of $30 per jumper. You will get a polar plunge sweat shirt with that. As well as hot chocolate to warm you up after.

I know that the fishing will be much harder with out the ice. There are probably better sources for the fishing info than myself. As far as the plunge, just your donations needed, there were people in swimsuits, costumes, and street clothes. Depending on air temp what ever you jump in with will freeze pretty quick. I mentioned before that there were prizes for the best costume and most donated. Prizes were donated by local business and families. I've heard they will be pretty good.

I jumped in last year with most of my fellow firefighters, and HOLY CRAP was that cold!!! I've spent my life trying NOT to fall through the ice and then I follow the crowd into the water. Felt like a sheep afterward!
But seriously though, we did it for the kids at primary childrens and even donated that months fire pay to the cause. I guess what doesn't kill us makes us tougher!
If any of you are brave enough to jump in, come into my restaurant( the lodge), and mention you did it, and you can have free coffee or hot chocolate on me.
Hope to see you all up here!

Hey oldncold, give me a p.m. And I can hook you up with some nets to borrow for the day since I will not be able to be there that morning due to business obligations. It's worth the trip, and the timing couldn't be better to dip a quick limit. Just make sure you either bring waders, or plan on getting your legs a little wet.
If you have a small boat, you can also do pretty good for other species just off shore, not to mention jigging up ciscos long after they've move out from shore later in the morning.
